A humble Scottish farmer and his son settled in this area in the mid 1800’s. Stories abound as he lived a simple life and he and his son were rarely seen. However one afternoon in mid October the boy was lost in the woods. The man in a thick Scottish accent called out for his son. Some local settlers joined in the search. After a few weeks the volunteers stopped searching but the father kept looking. Into the darkness of night the man called out for his son. Many years passed and eventually the father’s voice grew quiet and his call for his son stopped. The man was found dead in this area clinging to his son’s favourite shirt. Since that time, they say, you can hear the old man’s voice deep in the woods calling out for his son who, to this day, has never been found. The Popple Hill phantom still moans a heartbreaking plea to find his son. Will you dare walk the woods at night?
