I'm so very touched by all the demands of face painting we are still getting. Some even offered to pay us extra because they know the kind of service we were providing and making sure that all the little peeps were going home happy with safe products on their face. I very thank all of you for your loyalty. With all the demands I had recently, I might not just hang the brushes yet but I do have to take a break from doing face painting for a bit. And here is why:
11 years ago when I started doing face painting it was my passion to be able to see kids faces each and every time I would bring the mirror to their faces. All these kids made me the better face painter artist that I am today. What many don't realize, is that face painting is actually a really hard and demanding job to do. (Put it this way, we are painting on moving canvas, and on top our moving canvas is a kid. So if we want the kid to have a really great face paint, you have to learn skills to be able to adapt your brush to art work line on moving kids. And try to do that for 4h, 200 times, with some crying, screaming, laughing, talking. It's what I call the good time and make it what face painting is all about.)
Since I was a registered company I had sanitary and hygiene protocols to follow, and which I believe, is what made us a unique company. But what you guys did not see is the hardship work after packing up and finishing up a gig. When you had been standing for 8 hours straight, with no breaks and no food in you, and you arrive home and you have to wash, sanitized and desinfect all your equipment, not counting the over 200 sponges that you have to wash one by one and by hand, you end up doing 10 to 12h shift.
Some parents never understood why we had to stop the line so we could finish our shift and even some screaming at us because we could not do one more face painting. Yes, it broke my heart each and single time I had to refuse a kid, but I knew that the 8h that we just had finished, without any breaks and food, would last for another 2-4 hours or even longer.
I had amazing teams of face painters, and some that I even cherish with all my heart as they were always there to the rescue, leaving their own little ones so they could make other little ones happy.
But in the end, that passion turned into a "oh no, not another face painting event" kind of feeling. And this was not the value I started for the company, that passion was gone. It was really hard and still is really hard to say no to an event and I have decided to take a break from it so I can regain that passion again. I do miss all the children smile and laughter but I know with a well deserve break I eventually will get that passion back.
Again, I want to thank all the devoted customers that wanted to see us again this year, but who knows, I might be back next year.
