We offer classes for ages 3+ in a wide variety genres such as Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern, Lyrical, and Tap.

Music
We offer private lessons in violin, voice, and keyboarding as well as group lessons in keyboarding and music theory. Group Instruction
Current music students may be invited to join the Strings Ensemble and/or the Vocal Ensemble.

Meet Our Dance Team!

Miss Kayla

Originally from Edmonton, Kayla Erlandson is a passionate dance educator with over 16 years of experience in dance instruction and performing arts. She is a certified ADAPT teacher in Jazz and Tap, holds certifications with Acrobatic Arts and the Comix Hip Hop Method, and has specialized training in preschool dance programs including Acrobatic Arts Preschool, Discover Dance, and Twinkle Stars.
Kayla is deeply focused on ensuring that every person has the opportunity to learn, grow, and experience the joy of movement—regardless of age or background. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in inclusion, encouragement, and a deep respect for the history and discipline of dance.

Throughout her career, Kayla has attended numerous conventions and workshops across North America, continuously expanding her knowledge and refining her approach as both a dancer and educator. Her extensive background in theatre and the performing arts allows her to bring storytelling, creativity, and structure into every class and performance.

As the founder of the Fort McMurray Dance Association, Kayla has been instrumental in creating meaningful opportunities for dancers in the region. Her award-winning choreography, particularly for group and ensemble work, reflects both her technical expertise and her commitment to community-building through the arts.

Outside the studio, Kayla enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, and their family dog, finding balance between her creative passions and her dedication to family life.

Meet Our Dance Team!

Miss Krista - Lead Instructor

For Krista, dance is more than a passion—it’s her calling. She began training at a young age and earned advanced certifications through the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance, where she received a special solo award.

A Dance Major at Brigham Young University–Idaho, Krista specialized in contemporary dance and education and toured internationally with the BYU–Idaho Dance Alliance. She has also earned certifications in Acrobatic Arts, Barre Above, and Progressing Ballet Technique.

Since 2018, Krista has served as Lead Dance Instructor at Uptown at SECPA. She is passionate about helping students build confidence, develop strong technique, and achieve their goals, with many earning scholarships, awards, and acceptance into post-secondary dance programs.

Outside the studio, Krista enjoys spending time with her husband, Kaden, and their two children, Ridley and Alder.

Join our Dance Production Class!

Dance Production is a special choreography-based class created for current Uptown dancers ages 8–18 who are enrolled in two or more classes. Designed to celebrate our 15th season, this exciting opportunity brings dancers together from different age groups and levels to create one unforgettable performance.

Dancers will learn how to work as part of a large cast, adapt to various formations and staging, and collaborate with peers of different experience levels. Featuring a mix of dance styles and music, Production offers a fast-paced, energetic rehearsal environment that challenges dancers to grow both individually and as part of a team.

This class is perfect for committed dancers who are ready to step outside their comfort zone, build new connections, and be part of something truly special.

This dance will be performed in both Show C and Show D.

Program Assistant - Emma Torraville
Emma Torraville is a 17 year old dancer, who has been dancing around the coffee table since she was old enough to stand. At the age of 3 she joined Uptown! Dance at SEPCA, and her passion for dance soared and each year she added more and more dance classes to participate in. Being involved in competitive dance and being selected to dance in the 2017 Alberta Winter games and Ballet Jorgen: A Midsummers Nights Dream boosted Emma into wanting more. Emma is now a dance assistant, which she is absolutely enthusiastic about being able to pass along her love and knowledge of dance to others. Emma is so excited to be involved in another one of Uptown! at SECPA's programs!

Join our Pre-School programs!

CREATIVE MOVEMENT (3 years old)
This joyful and creative class helps stimulate your child’s imagination and enhances balance, flexibility and motor skills. They will explore movement through music while developing rhythm and coordination.

KINDER COMBO (4 years old)
This fun filled class is an extension of Creative Movement. The children are now ready for more coordinated combinations of steps and movements. Our focus is to increase body awareness, technique and memory. More emphasis is placed on tempo and musical timing. Children begin to learn the basic movements for ballet and jazz. The concepts will prepare students for the following year when they graduate to Pre-Primary Ballet and Jr. Ballet/Jazz.

GROOVY GUYS (4-6 year old boys)
Inspired by famous leading men Fred Astaire, Derek Hough, and Twitch, Groovy Guys is an age specific all-boys dance class containing tap, jazz and hip hop movement. Geared toward a young boys’ active and physical nature, the purpose of the class is to introduce young male dancers to the three styles of dance through movements like jumping, turning, and kicking.

Starting at age 5, select from classes such as Pre-Primary Ballet, Jr. Jazz/Tap, and Jr. Acro.

SUMMER CAMPS AT SECPA

Meet our Broadway Bound Team:

Program Assistant - Abigail Forbister
Abigail Forbister is a 16 year old dancer and assistant at Uptown! Dance at SEPCA. She began dancing at the age of 2, and hasn’t stopped since. She has participated in the Peak Dance program at École McTavish High School and has performed in several experiences outside of her home studio. These include, All Together Now!, Broadway Bound, Ballet Jörgen: A Midsummers Night’s Dream and her personal favourite Wood Buffalo’s very first Baby Rave. One of Abigail’s biggest passions is to teach others. She began assisting in 2024, and fell in love. Since then she has assisted a total of 10 classes, and hopes to continue teaching in the future.

Meet our Broadway Bound Team:

Program Assistant - Brooklyn Rose
Brooklyn has danced at Uptown! dance at SECPA since they first opened. She has also spent her years dancing with Holy Trinity’s dance program throughout high school. Training in many different styles over the years. She has also spent the past 3 years assisting classes and supporting young dancers in many different styles. She has experience working with Swamp Rat’s Summer Camp last year. Also assisting Broadway Bound’s Spring Break production of The Jungle Book, and assisting their Fall production of Shrek. She loves helping young performers build confidence, develop their skills, and discover a passion for the arts. Brooklyn is excited to bring her experience and passion to Broadway Bounds Summer Break Camp and can’t wait for an amazing summer filled with learning, creativity, and fun!
