In honour of Mental Illness Awareness Week, Canadian Mental Health Association Fort Frances Branch will be hosting its 11th Glow Walk/Run.

When: October 7th, 2026
Where: Sorting Gap Marina

Opening Ceremonies will start at 6:45pm and the Walk/Run will follow.

This community event will bring people together to walk, connect, learn and show support for mental illness. Every step represents our commitment to creating a community where people feel supported, understood and comfortable speaking about mental illness.

Are you a dad, brother, uncle, grandpa, looking to learn the art of styling hair for your little loved one? The Behavioral Intervention/Early Intervention Program is partnering with Glow Getter Studio to host a hair styling class just for you!!!

Join the team on Saturday, October 17th from 12-2pm at the Nanicost Gym!!

Lunch is provided. Open to members of the 8 First Nations Treaty 3 South

Yesterday we gathered and remembered the Survivors, their families, and the children who never made it home in honour of Truth and Reconciliation Day 🧡

Orange Shirt Day and the Truth and Reconciliation Awareness Walk took place starting at the Survivors Monument at the Nanicost Grounds on Agency One lands where hundreds gathered to hear truths, songs and sharings from Elders, community members and students.

Through ceremony, and community, we walked together in remembrance of the children who never made it home, in honour of the Survivors, and in commitment to the healing and revitalization of our culture and languages.

We also celebrated the strength and resilience of our people.

CHI-MIGWETCH to all the speakers, students, staff, community members, sponsors and more who help raise awareness and honour residential school survivors and those that did not make it home.

The Survivors’ Flag is an expression of remembrance, meant to honour residential school Survivors and all the lives and communities impacted by the residential school system in Canada. Each element depicted on the flag was carefully selected by Survivors from across Canada, who were consulted in the flag’s creation.

On September 25th, the Flag Raising Ceremony took place at the Town of Fort Frances Town Hall In Honour of National Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Chi-Miigwech to speaker Elder Nancy “Koko” Jones for opening and providing direction for the ceremony.

Chi-Miigwech to speaker Dean Wilson from Weechi'ittewin Family Services who honoured his father, Willie Wilson.

Chi-Miigwech to Giishkaandago’Ikwe Health Services’ Singers Dwayne, Ken and Chris for the songs including the Flag Song as the flag was being raised by students.

Chi-Miigwech to Survivor Cecilia Henderson, students and family members of residential school students.

Chi-Miigwech to Mayor Hallikas, the Town of Fort Frances Clerks, Chelsea and Ally, for hosting and planning meetings and facilitating today’s ceremony, the town counselors and staff who manned the bbq’s and thank you to all the students and school staff who attended.

Chi-Miigwech to Constable Rob Chivers-Wilson who has been instrumental in the past few years helping us plan various events and offer his experienced advice to help us create safe events.

Chi-Miigwech to the students, Miles, Ellie, Abby and Carter who assisted in helping Elder "Koko" Jones with the flag raise.

Weechi-it-te-win Family Services had the pleasure of hosting Michael and his dad Marcel as they both shared Michaels story about how he has embraced his diagnoses and inspires so many others to do the same!
