Today we had Totah Bev in to make her delicious blueberry Indigenous cookies with our preschool and kindergarten classes. With teachings of a good mind and how we cook with love, and putting our love into cooking for people we love๐Ÿซ๐Ÿช๐Ÿซ
We made heart shaped cookies & made enough so the children could take some home and share with their families. ๐Ÿ’œ
Ms Kristi taught us some new words in Kanyen:kรฉha - cookies, blueberries, heart and love ๐Ÿ’•

Today our AHS children listened intently to the Anishinaabe teachings of Makwa Giizis (Bear Moon).

The story tells about the time during February (and some of January) that is known as Bear Moon because it is when the baby bears are being born.

The story also invited the children to look outside during Bear Moon when the weather seems to turn warmer and there is fog in the air. This is called the "Breath of The Bear" and is also known to the Anishinaabe as a sign that more baby bears are being born.

๐ŸŒฟ The Unity Team Needs Your Help ๐ŸŒฟ

The Unity Team provides wraparound supports to Indigenous children, youth, and families across the Niagara Region. We're reaching out to community members who may be able to help by becoming a kinship provider.

We are seeking Indigenous community members who are willing to provide culturally relevant kinship care to Indigenous children and youth who need additional support.

Kinship providers may have a family connection, but they can also be trusted community members who are willing to step in and help in a meaningful way. If youโ€™ve ever considered becoming a kinship provider or would like to learn more, we encourage you to reach out.

Please direct all inquiries for now to: [email protected] [email protected]

Please feel free to share this post to help spread the word.๐Ÿงก

Last week's visit from Aunty Jill was a special experience for us at AHS. Jill has a beautiful way with her words and captivated the children with her knowledge of the Haudenosaunee Social songs and dances.

Hearing the children sing along with her was beautiful ๐Ÿ’œ

If you missed out on this opportunity please join us next Thursday (February 12th) from 5-7PM with our Tshikeksa': EarlyOn program - Aunty Jill will be back at AHS sharing her teachings of the Haudenosaunee Social with the families and children of our communities (more details to come). ๐ŸŽ‰
