A funny little bit of kit I found at a local antique sale. I think it’s designed to crimp ribbon or paper but it’s a sturdy device with wooden gears. No idea what I’m going to use this for, but I like it. Regardless, the frivolity of it makes me happy. $2 well spent I’d say.

A friendly reminder that we are opening up the studio this weekend to show you the secrets of the print shop, Gabri g a bit of a hang, and giving you a chance to peruse some good prices on prints and paintings that have cycled through the galleries and have not found homes.

Friday night is a bit of a preview and a casual hang, and Saturday lines up with the community garage sale put on by so we’ll be here with art as well as a few bits of garage sale merchandise.

Mostly finished the BOB print and moved on to the next one; Elk River rocks. There is a little more clarity to be sorted on the bridge block, but I’m going to leave it for now until I see the full set together and make fine adjustments as I print. The river rocks are coming out nicely. Pulled a partial proof yesterday then put in some hours last night to bring it closer to the finish line.

Pulling some proofs today to see where I’m at. This wood engraving of the Big Orange Bridge in Nelson, BC. Is the companion for a poem I’ve written called Queen City. How handy for this cool city to have a nickname starting with Q? Very helpful for an abecedary.

Checking how it looks on a variety of papers too, I haven’t yet made the final paper choice for this book so I want to see it on some different textures and colours. Here it is on regular bond paper, Neenah Classic Cotton Ecru, and some Zerkall offcuts from a past project.

Putting together a new batch of Solvent Notebooks™️ made from ink wipes; a by-product of cleaning the press. 15 dot-grid journals with 40 pages will be available at the Studio Sale in a couple weeks—at a discount of course. Saddle stitched, trimmed, corner rounded right here. Each one is unique. I love these things and I wish I could keep them all but 🤷🏼‍♂️ gotta share.

A sneak peek at what’s been keeping me busy lately: these 6/2 new years cards are printed on Cranes Lettra (the last of my OG stash) 220 # double thick cover so we painted the edges too. 6 passes with wood type for the front, 2 passes of handset metal type down to 6pt. For the back (more details and pics soon…) plus one laser-cut logo by (thanks y’all). It’s pretty much been a three week project in the printshop. Im excited to get them off to the client who gave me a lot of leeway in the design!
