I don’t say often enough how darned proud that I am of this little gallery. The beauty of its placement, the amazing light and view, the constant engagement with visitors, and the way this perfect frontal exposes the exceptional work inside. (And the way the 6pm sunlight projects our mission words ‘regional, relevant, modern’ onto the plinths in the second pic). Thank you Fernie. I fall in love with you again every time I arrive. “Spring 2026” by is opening June 13, with the artist in attendance 2-6pm. The 14 large format show pieces will be a compilation from her sketches over the last 6 months as she travelled into the backcountry from Skoki to Elk Lake (pictured here). Whether the sites seem familiar to you (or not), Chrissy’s uncanny sense of place and her mastery of color in nature will capture you. The show is up in our online store, and sales have begun!

Part 2: The Commission Process

Curious how it actually works? Here’s what to expect when commissioning a piece through our Fernie location:

Step 1 — The Conversation
We start by nailing down size and subject with you and the artist. Some artists love detailed direction; others prefer just a spark of inspiration to run with.

Step 2 — 50% Deposit
Once everything is agreed upon, a 50% deposit gets the artist started and the creative process underway.

Step 3 — Work in Progress
Your artist will share progress images along the way so you can see your piece coming to life.

Step 4 — Final Approval & Payment
When the work is complete and you love it, the remaining balance is due and your one-of-a-kind piece is yours.

A commission is one of the most personal ways to bring art into your life, made just for you, by an artist you connect with. Reach out to us to start the conversation!

One of the delights of my 30 year tenure in this business has been those moments when I reflect on my longest relationships with artists. Recently, I happened across an image from 2008 - a piece by . Year by year, I’ve witnessed her rigorous and determined practice mature as a painter. I’ve never invoked the relative comparison images, but now I must! Look at the 2008 image, then back to today. It is staggering how capable she has become…all commercial affectations have dropped away, and the idiosyncrasy of her mark-making is unapologetic.
