The "results" of beginner piano lessons may not always be obvious, but your child is getting so much more from their piano lessons than you can see (or hear!).

I really enjoyed this article on memorization. My students know that I will encourage memorizing if they’re comfortable with it but only because it’s expected in festivals and examinations. I, personally, feel that the anxiety that memorization causes is not worth it. I would much sooner see a student perform with a score than not perform at all because they’re too scared.

Pianists utilise four types of memory when learning music. We look at each type, as well as why pianists are pressured to memorize in the first place!

This week I was teaching a student to draw a quarter rest. I’ve always taught it as a crooked “Z” with a “C” on the bottom. When I was drawing it though, I noticed that the “crooked Z” also looked like Harry Potter’s scar and so many of my students (and Me too) are HP fans so now that’s all I see. 😂🤔
