Doors Open is happening today, and we’re delighted to welcome you to Rossland Gardens.

Step inside one of Amherst Island’s oldest farmsteads, explore our self-guided gardens and natural trails, and discover our gallery of Canadian fine craft.

We’ll also have a tasting table set up beside the new pond, where you can sample our small-batch woodfire preserves, made right here on the property using seasonal harvests and prepared on our traditional wood cookstove.

A selection of preserves will be available for purchase, including favourites like lilac jelly, honeysuckle jelly, and peony jelly.

Join us today from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free as part of Doors Open.

Doors Open Ontario Explore & Play - Loyalist Township

This Saturday, June 20, Rossland Gardens will be open as part of Doors Open Loyalist Township. This event is free and open to the public.

For one day only, visitors are invited inside the restored historic farmhouse at Rossland Gardens, one of Amherst Island’s earliest settled properties. The house has evolved over more than two centuries, with its earliest section dating to c.1790, a timber-frame south wing built in 1806, and a west wing converted from a former barn in 1890.

The gallery, gardens, and natural trails will also be open to visitors throughout the day. We will have a limited amount of small batch Rossland Gardens farmgate preserves available for purchase - lilac, peony and honeysuckle jellies, all harvested on our farm and make on our traditional wood cookstove. Rossland Gardens is one of several Doors Open sites on Amherst Island. Other participating stops include the Neilson Store Museum and Cultural Centre, Topsy Farms, Amherst Island dry stone walls, Pentland Cemetery, the Amherst Island Agricultural Society Fairgrounds, and St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church.

Make a full island day of it, and plan to stop at The Back Kitchen, where they’ll be celebrating the grand opening of their new outdoor seating gazebo.

Our preorders are open for lilac, peony, wild violet and honeysuckle jellies. Small batch, harvested here at Rossland Gardens and done on our traditional wood cookstove. Each type has a unique floral taste - great with toast, delicious on delicate pastries and scones, and beautiful soft cheeses. They make wonderful hostess gifts! We strongly recommend preordering, and they will be available for pick up during our free Doors Open event this Saturday. Rossland Gardens is now open for the season.

We welcome visitors Thursday to Monday, 11:00 AM–4:30 PM, for gallery & workshop visits, gardens, forest paths, and a quieter experience of Amherst Island.

Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

We’re grateful for yesterday’s wonderful opening day turnout, even in the rain. We will be open today as planned. If a dry stroll is more your style, the lilacs are only about 50 percent in bloom and will continue to intensify over the coming week. Come when it feels right for you—there will be more colour and fragrance in the days ahead.

Unfortunately the weather looks horrendous for Friday and possibly Saturday too, but rest assured we will remain open for local Christmas shoppers.

If you are on the mainland and can't make it over to Amherst Island, feel free to shop with us online! One of us will be heading to the mainland the morning of the 22nd, and would be happy to hand deliver your presents to you at Millhaven dock, all beautifully wrapped and ready to go under the tree. Make sure to check 'pick up' as the delivery method so as not to incur a shipping charge.

On December 24 we will close the gallery for the season, reopening in May.
