Hey Everyone,

We had a really tough situation arise last week that we thought we might share with all of you.

As you are likely aware, everyone has been presented with a very challenging set of guidelines and regulations to help us all stay safe and healthy during the pandemic. Sherwood is no different. We were placed in a position last spring in which we had to convert our retail business model into an online platform. This has provided us the opportunity to continue to serve our community and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We are truly grateful and humbled by your enormous level of support.

Being an independent business, entering the intimidating world of online sales has also had its share of challenges. Last week we had a large amount of high-value guitars stolen from us by a number of individuals using stolen credit cards. These people were extremely well organized and also hit a number of other independent music retailers in Ontario.

It was very disheartening to watch our guitars be placed on other online platforms and sold off by the thieves, one by one. We took every course of action possible to interrupt these people, working with local police and the other stores affected to gather information.

Although the investigation is on-going, and we are hopeful that we might receive some good news out of this situation yet, it is very unlikely that that will be the case. To make matters more difficult, we have learned that Sherwood is not entitled to any support from the large companies that handled the fraudulent transactions contributing to this incident. These companies have absolved themselves of all responsibility, while small businesses like ours struggle incredibly to survive in this new and unfamiliar climate. Fellow independent businesses, take note.

We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that every day, you have a choice to support independent businesses in your community. Sherwood Music is living proof, that when you choose to do so, that support will work to serve the community better in a cycle of caring, gratitude and growth.
