I am an artist who loves to share my joy of painting with others! Painting land and sea scapes has been a hobby for about 25 years since I got my first set of oils one Christmas. Watching Bob Ross was always a favourite of mine, and still is. I enjoy painting nature in varying shades of colour with the occasional touch of whimsy added in. Oil is my medium of choice, and I try to paint whenever my

muse speaks, be it seeing the beautiful colours of a prairie sunrise, or a cool winter afternoon. In addition to the originals I do when I decide to paint, I can also do custom paintings for those that would like their own piece. Any painting I do is available for purchase, please message me for more information! If you do not live near me, then shipping costs would also have to be calculated. I’ve also had some of my pieces made into prints, and put on to mugs and greeting cards.

It has been almost a month since I posted anything, so Hi!! I felt the need for a bit of a creative break, which did also include less social media. We also were busy in our home as we painted all the main areas so I no longer am looking at brown walls which I really love.

This morning I went back down to my studio again. It was a bit more open since things from upstairs had got moved downstairs, and now most has been put back where it belongs.

I have finally finished my 16x40" orca painting from a photo that Jane Wilson shared earlier this summer. I'm so pleased with the end result. It's a bit diffrent than the photo is, but this was what I was aiming for. Lighting will show more blues vs blue greens.
I, as is pretty normal, am not sure what to call it, suggestions are welcome!

I will be more active over the coming weeks, I have 4 markets planned so far this fall and have to get some smaller pieces painted in preparation for that.

I hope you have all had a great summer!

Studio time!! A couple days ago, Jane Wilson shared photos from seeing a variety of animals from around Vancouver Island. I was immediately was drawn to the orca photos, not only because I love orcas, but because of the reflections. I asked her if I could use her photos for references, she said yes, so here we are after 5 hours of painting. It is still a work in progress, and I did play with colours different that the original photo because I wanted a bit more moody.
It's a big one at 16x40".

I am loving how it looks, now I'll let it dry before doing more on it. It is close to being done.

Also, I'll never not use this song for orcas, that's a core memory.

Today was a try something totally different day and this is what I did. I don't normally paint water, nor do I paint with these colours often, but it's fun to play.

There was definitely moments of "ugh this sucks" and "this is not working". I also needed to back off from it too so I could see how it really looked. Wasn't sure at first if I even liked it, but now, I do. Which means this will get framed once it's dry since it is on panel. I may do a glaze layer too, we'll see 😉

A work in progress on this Sunday evening! The idea to paint this popped into my head yesterday, I sketched it out this morning, and did the first session of painting this evening. Definitely one of those times when the idea won't leave me alone until I get going on it.

This is my second painting that is very specifically from books I have read. In this case, it is When the Moon Hatched and The Ballad of Falling Dragons by .a.parker.author

The Ballad of Falling Dragons was my favourite book I read in May, and it's definitely near the top for this year. This scene is entirely from my imagination based on descriptions in the books. Maybe it matches what other people picture, maybe it doesn't, but that's the magic of imagination. I didn't look at any other fan art for my idea, and what I have seen through social media has been the 2 main characters, not landscape scenes like this. I don't really paint people so this is more within my normal.

Now it dries and then I'll work on the moons and get them more detailed.
