Whimsy is a playful word that evokes a touch of sparkle, magic, frivolity, fantasy, or mischievousness. It adds brightness and humor to everyday life and inspires wonder and delight. Let your imagination take flight as you invite whimsy into your creative expression.

Capital City Art invites artists to submit 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional works that embrace whimsy for exhibition to our Community Gallery spaces. Media may include, but are not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, pottery, or textile arts.

The formal submission period will begin June 1, 2026 and will close July 26, 2026 . No works will be accepted before that date. Works will be considered against Capital City Art submission criteria (see FAQs).

Join us on Sunday, June 14, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Night of Artists Gallery for a special Book & Album Launch with Selena Morin Brace.
Selena will be celebrating the release of her new children’s book, The Spirit Within, along with its accompanying album. Experience the story and music together as Selena performs selections from the album live in the gallery.
This family-friendly event will also feature face painting and candy apple treat bags for children. Books will be for sale!
Also on Sunday afternoon, our popular cartoon and graphic novel drawing workshop with James Grasdal will be running as a drop-in class for children ages 7 and up. Young artists can learn drawing techniques in a fun and supportive environment.
Workshop Fee:
$35 per child
$30 for gallery members
While the kids create, parents can browse the gallery and shop for unique artwork and gifts.

TWO INCREDIBLE EXHIBITIONS. ONE AMAZING DAY OF ART.

Join us this Saturday, June 6, at Night of Artists Gallery & Gifts in Bonnie Doon Centre as we celebrate the opening of two outstanding new exhibitions by some of Edmonton’s most talented artists.

The day begins with the public opening reception of The Art of Possibility, presented by the Edmonton Art Club, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This inspiring exhibition features a diverse collection of original artwork exploring creativity, imagination, and the limitless possibilities of artistic expression. Meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, and experience the incredible talent of one of Edmonton’s longest-standing and most respected art organizations.

Then, in the evening, we are honoured to host the opening reception for Whispers of Magic, a new exhibition by acclaimed artist Catherine McMillan. Beginning at 7:00 p.m., this special event welcomes gallery members, VIP guests, and invited attendees for an exclusive first look at Catherine’s captivating collection, filled with imagination, beauty, and wonder.

Whether you join us during the afternoon public reception or as part of the evening celebration, June 6 promises to be a memorable day filled with art, inspiration, and community.

If you are unable to attend either opening, both exhibitions will remain on display at Night of Artists Gallery & Gifts until July 2, giving visitors plenty of time to experience these remarkable collections throughout the month.

A glimpse into Catherine McMillan’s upcoming exhibition, Whispers of Magic… Postcards from a Dream Carnival.
Inspired by the idea that we spend our lives balancing our fragile treasures—a favourite cup, a dream, a hopeful heart—along a wire stretched between what is and what might become, Catherine’s work invites viewers into a world where wonder, memory, and imagination intertwine.
The exhibition opens with a special Members and VIP Guests Preview on Saturday, June 6 at 7:00 PM at Night of Artists Gallery.
For those unable to attend the preview evening, the exhibition will be on display throughout the month, offering many opportunities to experience these enchanting new paintings.
