Down By The River

Down By The River It all begins.. Down By The River

This fall, join us in Edmonton's river valley at Louise McKinney Park — where music drifts through the trees, stories are shared by the water, and community gathers at the edge of something beautiful.

🌾 The Rural Alberta Advantage headline Friday, September 18 at Down by the River

Since their breakout debut album Hometowns in 2008, The RAA have been making some of Canada’s most beloved indie rock. Led by Fort McMurray-raised songwriter Nils Edenloff, the band’s music has long carried a deep connection to Alberta.

Across five albums, they’ve built a sound that’s unmistakably theirs: driving drums, full-hearted vocals and songs that seem to gather force the louder they get. With a sixth album in the works and new single “Falling Apart” out now, they’re bringing the kind of energy made for a Friday night Down by the River.

🌾 Artist Spotlight: Vincent Neil Emerson 🌾

An East Texas artist with Choctaw-Apache roots, Vincent Neil Emerson makes music shaped by his family history, loss and hard-won experience. From early days busking and playing Texas honky-tonks to songs featured in popular TV series like Yellowstone and Landman, his work has a depth that sets him apart.

His newest album, Blue Stars, feels like Emerson stepping fully into himself - blending everyday stories with reflections on where he’s been, where he is and where he’s headed. Along the way, he’s played with and been championed by artists like Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle and Colter Wall - the kind of company that speaks for itself.

Vincent Neil Emerson headlines Saturday, September 19 at Down by the River for an exclusive Alberta show 🌊

🌾 Artist Spotlight : Ross Fizzard 🌾

Raised in Fort Mac and now based in Calgary, Ross Fizzard brings country, folk and prairie charm together with songs full of character, an easygoing warmth and a wit reminiscent of John Prine.

With appearances at Mariposa Folk Festival and East Coulee Fest, plus two sold-out Palomino shows opening for Noeline Hofmann, he’s been steadily making his mark in Alberta’s roots scene and beyond.

⚡️Artist Spotlight: Goldie Boutilier⚡️

She’s lived a few lives - and you can hear all of them in her music.

Born and raised in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, on the likes of Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette, Goldie’s roots run deep. After weathering hard chapters, reinvention and a turbulent journey through the music industry, she’s come out the other side with a voice that’s unmistakably hers, and a message that encourages others to find their own.

Her momentum over the past few years speaks for itself: over 70 million streams, praise from Elton John and Zane Lowe, and festival stages including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo. And now, Down by the River.

With powerful songwriting and a stage presence that’s impossible to look away from, she’s bound to make a fan out of you - if you weren’t one already.

Catch Goldie Boutilier on Sunday, September 20 🌾
