Inflationary Stamps
Part of the chaos which beset post-war Germany was a fierce inflation in 1924. The progress of the spiraling devaluation of German money appears from the stamps in this collection, with progressively higher amounts overstamped on the original postage. The stamps were sent to a schoolboy in Calgary in 1955 by his uncle, former British soldier Private Olmen Arthur Underwood of the Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment), who obtained them when finishing his wartime service in Austria and Germany.
I came across these stamps while visiting a military museum recently. I have some overprint stamps of German occupied territory from World War II in my private collection. I will share it with you on another day.
ডাকটিকিটে মুদ্রাস্ফীতি
যুদ্ধ-পরবর্তী জার্মানিতে যে বিশৃঙ্খলা ছড়িয়েছিল তার একটি অংশ ছিল ১৯২৪ সালের ভয়াবহ মুদ্রাস্ফীতি। এই ডাকটিকেটগুলো থেকে জার্মান অর্থের প্রকট অবমূল্যায়নের চিত্র প্রকাশ পায় এবং দেখা যায় যে ডাকের উপর ক্রমবর্ধমানে উচ্চ পরিমাণের মূল্য ওভারস্ট্যাম্প করা হয়েছিল। স্ট্যাম্পগুলি ১৯৫৫ সালে প্রাক্তন ব্রিটিশ সৈনিক প্রাইভেট অলম্যান আর্থার আন্ডারউড (রয়্যাল ইস্ট কেন্ট রেজিমেন্ট) তাঁর ভ্রাতুষ্পুত্র ক্যালগেরির একটি স্কুলের ছাত্রের কাছে পাঠান। অলম্যান অস্ট্রিয়া এবং জার্মানিতে যুদ্ধকালীন পরিষেবা শেষ করার সময় এগুলি সংগ্রহ করেছিলেন।
সম্প্রতি এক সামরিক সংগ্রহশালায় বেড়ানোর সময় এই ডাকটিকেটগুলো আমার চোখে পরে। আমার ব্যক্তিগত সংগ্রহে দ্বিতীয় মহাযুদ্ধ চলাকালীন জার্মানির দখলকৃত অঞ্চলের কিছু ওভারপ্রিন্ট ডাকটিকিট আছে। সেগুলো আরেকদিন শেয়ার করব।
