Punctuate Theatre is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Cris Derksen — a prolific, generous, and extraordinary talent in our community.

Cris’s artistry, vision, and impact left a mark on so many. We are grateful for the extraordinary gifts they shared with the world.

From Punctuate Theatre's Resident Elder, Jo-Ann Saddleback

"Cris was an inspirational artist leading the way to explore and become accomplished at the cello and other instruments. Her music and her connection to people who came to hear her was a most Beautiful live story. Thank you Dear Cris and Safe Journey 🌹🌈❤️"

Welcome to the first in our series:
Where We’ve Been - Where We’re Going

WHERE WE’VE BEEN
Punctuate! Theatre is a touring company with audiences across the nation. We have been presented in over 16 theatres in 12 cities across Canada and our shows Bears and First Métis Man of Odessa are two of Canada’s largest independent national tours.

Staying rooted in our identity, our shows tour to rural Indigenous communities with as much pride and artistic excellence as our productions on stages like the National Arts Centre.

We are honoured to share our stories with all of you across Turtle Island, and there is only more to come…

WHERE WE’RE GOING
We are actively building relationships with new theatres in all corners of Canada and we can’t wait to meet and share our stories with new audiences (…keep an eye out for who that’s gonna be!)

We are at the forefront of creating more access to high-production shows in Indigenous communities. As an Indigenous led company with a high focus on producing Indigenous stories, we are leaders in this space and are hard at work making this a reality.

Though our hearts are on the ground, our eyes look to the horizon as we lean further into our international collaborations and partnerships, readying ourselves for our first international presentation. The world wants to hear our stories. We will get them there.

JOIN US
We are nothing if our work isn’t happening in relation with our community. Our team is moving full-speed ahead and with you by our side, together we will make incredible things happen.

Last year was a big one. Busier than ever, we are humming with excitement for what's coming - new shows, partnerships, creation processes, groundbreaking initiatives and a few ANNOUNCEMENTS…but more of that later.

Before we move forward, we are allowing ourselves a moment to reflect back and celebrate WHERE WE'VE BEEN.

The stories
The people
The creation
The communities

Whether you've been with us for years, or this is your first introduction to Punctuate! Theatre, we’re glad you’re here.

Join us as we return to the achievements, the disappointments, and all the messy moments in between as we lead up to an unveiling, a re-introduction of sorts, of WHO WE ARE and WHERE WE'RE GOING.

Pipe in! We want to hear your favorite Punctuate! moments too.
DM us and we'll share them along the way.
