Artist in Residence - Saman Shahi

A JUNO-nominated composer and conductor based in Toronto, Saman’s music has captivated audiences across North America, Europe, and Asia. His work has been performed by leading ensembles and organizations including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The National Ballet of Canada, Tapestry Opera, and Soundstreams, and featured at renowned festivals such as the Lucerne Festival.

Benedict Sheehan's Ukrainian War Requiem is a powerful tribute to Ukraine's enduring spirit, honoring lives lost in war through music. Rooted in the tradition of the panakhyda (a memorial service for the dead), it blends ancient Ukrainian prayers, Latin texts, and Jewish melodies, symbolizing Ukraine's complex past, present, and future.

Performed by the Axios Men's Ensemble and the tenors and basses of Pro Coro Canada under Michael Zaugg, this work commemorates the ultimate sacrifice for freedom, democracy, and faith. The Ukrainian War Requiem stands as a vigil for the fallen and a celebration of Ukraine's resilient heritage.

Experience the Ukrainian War Requiem this fall, as we cross Canada to bring this powerful music to communities across the country.

Sharing a few moments from the Elora Festival!

Following our final solo concert in Fergus, Pro Coro Canada joined The Elora Singers for the Festival’s Closing Night Concert at the historic Gambrel Barn, bringing two of Canada’s professional chamber choirs together for a memorable evening of music.

One of the program’s highlights was the world premiere of Forty Words for YES by Canadian composer Doug Jamieson, a work written for 40 singers divided into eight groups.
