It's been pretty quiet while I work on school, but there have been some big updates to the Special Order list!

Artificer, Steel Defender, Barbarian, and Bard minis by Mz4250 are all available now for special order! There is a load of character races to choose from, and some simply excellent steel defenders. My personal favorites are the possum bard (I played one recently) and the gnome artificer riding the steel defender emu.

jpld.ca to check them out!

Let's take a quick coffee break from setting up our new lil FDM addition to the fleet to talk technology.

We use both fusion deposition modelling (FDM) and digital light processing (DLP) to make our stuff.

FDM is what you've probably encountered most commonly online with the print head whipping around, DEPOSITING filament as a layered structure is built up. There's relatively little chemistry involved with the environment- and human- friendly PLA plastic we use.

DLP is similar to stereolithography (SLA) printers in that they expose a bath of precursor material to UV light (ours just use a projector source instead ofa direct source like an LCD) which cures in the shape of the exposed light. Basically, you can think of it as exposing thousands of photonegatives and stacking them on top of each other to make a 3D object from the dark spots. There's a good bit of polymer and solvent chemistry to this technology and it lives under negative pressure because it's not super friendly.

In both cases, we go out of our way to save waste material and keep usage as low as possible. If you see us at an event, you can grab a scoop of fully-cured resin supports for your basing projects - it's like mini rebar for modelling plaster!

Loving the FDM ruin print. Should be hitting the catalog this evening or tomorrow along with the mausoleum (which is HUGE).

Rounding out the cemetery theme on the store with a wall kit soon 🤫

Bit of a status update - our second FDM printer is on the road and should be here next week. Really happy to be expanding both the test print and production capacity.

TO CELEBRATE we're going to be getting a limited time license from another terrain designer for some of their stuff. I'd like to have a fantasy and sci fi set from them each on catalog for March but we'll see how the test prints go. It'll be available for special order for sure though- I'll keep ya posted.

That license also includes the legendary, the fabled, the enough-demanded-that-I-promise-it-will-happen

In the words of Travis Kelce, "DEEEEVAAAAAAAA a-LAS VEGAAAAAAS"

No... wait a minute...

First test print from Mz4250 is awesome, as anticipated. This lil angelic guy will be going on the store this afternoon. Bring some cosmic goodness into your life for $7!

We have a huge library of models available to us - what NPC, monster, or background bit should we work on next?

Hey folks, welcome to the page for the new web store. Basically what we're looking to do here is a) design some of our own models for gaming tools like markers and measuring devices, and b) source models ethically by paying artists and printing their stuff with full attribution. You can check out the current products we're offering at https://jpld.ca/ .

You might find yourself saying "but the catalog is really... small?" and to that I say...... YUP. Here's what we're doing about it:

1. Getting more test prints done on 28mm terrain models we already have. We have a handful of kits that look good in the computer from Urbanmatz (one of our commercial licensors) but we haven't test printed them. Stuff doesn't go into the catalog until we KNOW what the price is and that we can deliver quality product.

2. Gathering test prints for resin-printed miniatures. I knoooow there's lots of you D&D players out there and we have just gotten a commercial subscription to Mz4250. The models rock - again, they don't go into the catalog until we get the prints right though. Soon. Very soon.

3. Continuing to headhunt for new sources of models. This takes time, because we go through and make damn good and sure that we aren't stealing art from people. We are not and will never be a "print anything that comes in the door" service because we can't sustain going through and tracking down files to make sure they're properly licensed. That said, you can always ask us for something and we'll focus on it. You want trees? We're looking for trees. Trust me.

4. Getting our business licensing done so we don't get STEPPED ON BY THE MAN (this doesn't affect the catalog but it's a stress point that keeps me from modelling and shtuff)

Thanks for checking us out. More to come soon.
