New Music Edmonton

New Music Edmonton New Music Edmonton is this region's primary organizational hub for innovative and diverse sound.

New Music Edmonton, now into its fourth decade of operations, began as The Edmonton Composers’ Collective Society, and was primarily focused on creating performance opportunities for its composer-members. Since then, we have evolved to become amiskwaciy-wâskahikan/ Edmonton’s primary organizational hub for presenting the widest possible spectrum of innovative sound and music practices, including e

xperimentalism, classical composition, free improvisation, electronic music, interdisciplinary projects and more. Our policies include de-centralizing our curatorial decisions, while we actively seek to support artists from equity-seeking groups and to understand, and act on, our obligations as a Treaty 6 participant.

New Music Edmonton presents Open Session For Women and Gender-diverse participants with Steph Patsula, June 11th @ 7:30 PM at St. Mary’s Highlands (11203 68 St NW)!

Open Session is a welcoming, low-pressure space for exploring sound, gear, and experimental music practices. This session centers women and gender-diverse communities, particularly those underrepresented in technical and experimental sound spaces. Participants are invited to experiment freely—whether that means plugging into unfamiliar gear, collaborating with others, or trying out new sonic ideas without expectation or hierarchy. No prior experience is necessary; curiosity and openness are the only requirements. Together, we’ll explore hands-on approaches to sound, emphasizing play, collective learning, and increasing access to tools and knowledge that are often gatekept in music and technical environments.

New Music Edmonton is pleased to be working alongside Steph Patsula, Bleeding Heart Art Space, and St. Mary’s Anglican Church.

Open Session is part of New Music Edmonton’s outreach programming, and part of Now Hear This 2026.

New Music Edmonton presents Listen to This! with Steph Patsula, June 10th @ 7:30 PM at audio ark (10745 124 Street NW)!

New Music Edmonton and audio ark team up for Listen to This! with Steph Patsula – the second in our series of listening sessions. This time, we are excited to welcome one of our city’s key multidisciplinary artists, Steph Patsula. Their practice features a dazzling and brilliantly unpredictable mix of visual, sonic and theatrical elements, with a growing number of brilliant solo and collaborative projects happening here and in locations across the continent.

Join us on June 10, for this informal session, as we sit down with Steph as they share some of the recordings that they love, on the amazing sound system at audio ark!

While you’re at the session, please enjoy a beverage from the cash bar – all proceeds will go to Edmonton’s Food Bank. You can also bring a non-perishable donation!
