Hurray for the Riff Raff founder, Alynda Segarra, has been something of a modern Huck Finn, an itinerant traveler whose adventures prompt art that reminds us there are always other ways to live. Born in the Bronx and of Puerto Rican heritage, Segarra was raised by a blue-collar aunt and uncle, where they were radicalized before they were a teenager, baptized in the anti-war movement and galvanized in New York’s punk haunts and q***r spaces. They steadily rose from house shows to a major label, where Segarra became a pan-everything fixture of the modern folk movement.

Wales born instrumentalist Gwenifer Raymond is a celebrated champion of the finger-style guitar. She has drawn international acclaim for her repurposing of "Mississippi blues" and John Fahey’s intricate Americana to embody her roots in rural South Wales. The Guardian has described her as a “profound talent” whilst The Observer has praised her “awe-inspiring technique and intense musicality”, and Uncut Magazine has championed her “fast-developing talents as a composer of eerie menace.”

Individually, each member of Fantastic Cat boasts their own impressive résumé along with a litany of critical acclaim. Collectively, though, the four transcend their respective roots, emerging as a velvet-clad rock and roll cooperative far greater than the sum of its parts. They say some cats are born fantastic; others have fantasy thrust upon them. These guys are somewhere in the middle.

The duo’s music stems from roots in musical traditions spanning both sides of the pond. In one breath, echoing the great American folk troubadours, and in another, comfortably channeling the elder statesmen of Irish folk. This is no accident. DUG have a shared musical heritage, with members having been born in America and Scotland before arriving in Ireland.

Cutting his teeth in Manchester's flourishing live scene, Dove Ellis has been spreading word-of-mouth after notable performances, earning him an opening spot on Geese’s 2025 American tour. On his debut album, "Blizzard", “Ellis’ remarkable vocals can settle into a dreamy falsetto so fragile he could be dancing on a pin, and then suddenly perform a handbrake turn into intensity, even anger. The way the arrangements
dart around his voice in ornate little counter-melodies recalls fellow Irishman Van Morrison, and recent single, “To the Sandals” noticeably nods to Joan Armatrading’s “Love and Affection”.” (The Guardian)

With "Dankoraba", her 2025 JUNO award winning album, Djely Tapa pursues her artistic vision at the crossroads of Malian and Western cultures, past, present and future. Originally from the Kayes region of western Mali, Tapa shares the wise words and vocal art of the griots, emblematic figures of ancient and contemporary Malian society, whose origins date back to the 13th-century Mandingo Empire. Her repertoire blends Mandingo traditions, desert blues and electronic sounds. (Canada/QC/Mali)

Balla KouyatĂ© and Mike Block met through their work with the Silkroad Ensemble, and have found a simpatico relationship with each other. “Balla’s joy and unbridled enthusiasm is infectious,” Block says. “There is so much trust between us,” offers KouyatĂ©. “We treat each other like brothers.” DjĂ©kady is a Mandinka word with the meaning, “coming together is good.” Every song is a trust fall, with each musician leaping higher and higher knowing their bandmates will catch them every time.

Dana Sipos (Canada/BC) coaxes silkworms out of their cocoons and spins them into song. She inhabited the far north before going nomad and her captivatingly nuanced songs are filled with a wild wind and a haunting surrealism. She now resides among the old growth of Vancouver Island. A consummate performer, Sipos has brought her unique brand of cosmic folk to living rooms, concert halls and festival stages across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
