Pianist from Longueuil, Québec takes $8,000 Top Prize
Edmonton, AB – On Saturday, May 16, 2026 – after two days of amazing and very high calibre competition via recorded videos – pianist Grégoire Abadie (20-years-old), from Longueuil, Québec, was awarded the $8,000 top prize in The Shean Piano Competition. Mr. From has also won the opportunity to play with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at a future date. Mr. Abadie was one of 4 finalists chosen from the 4 submitted entries to compete virtually in The 2026 Shean Piano Competition.
The complete results of the Competition are as follows (hometowns in parentheses):
First Place and $8,000, plus the opportunity to play with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra – Grégoire Abadie (Longueuil, QC)
Second Place and $5,000 – Roswell Reyes (Calgary, AB)
Third Place and $4,000 – Elly Hung (Calgary, AB)
Unfortunately, Vanessa Yu (Richmond Hill, ON) had to withdraw from the Competition due to illness.
Roswell Reyes also won the $1,000 Paul J. Bourret Memorial Award for Best Performance of the Test Piece – The Little Island, op. 14, no. 2 and Floods of Spring, op. 14, no. 11 by Earl Wild.
The adjudicators for this year’s Shean Piano Competition were David Hoyt, Chair; David Kaplan, and Micah Yui.
The 2027 Shean Strings Competition (for violin, viola, and violoncello) takes place May 18 and 19, 2027 in Edmonton at Knoppers Hall, The King’s University with an $8,000 Top Prize and the opportunity to perform with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. The $1,000 Paul J. Bourret Memorial Award for Best Performance of the Test Piece will also be awarded.
