Edmonton Fringe Theatre

Edmonton Fringe Theatre Fringe Theatre is home of the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival. Fringe with us August 13 - 23, 2026! Fringe Theatre was born of a revolution.
(680)

Largest, longest running Fringe in North America. Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2025 - Top 10 Cities: our Festival is their #1 reason why! We are a grass roots, DIY movement that cultivates ongoing collisions between community and art. We are Edmonton-grown and Edmonton’s own. We exist because theatre exists, and what exists here doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world. At Fringe Theatre, we culti

vate art, celebrate community, put people first, think yes, take risks, thrive on change, honour our past, and push forward. Theatre is an exchange. A living, breathing story shared among people. At Fringe Theatre, we believe in the power of story. Storytelling strengthens communities and crosses divides. It is a starting point, a journey, a celebration. The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival is the largest, longest running Fringe Theatre Festival in North America. As an event with international presence, we rank among the top 5 Fringe Festivals in the world alongside Edinburgh, Scotland and Adelaide, Australia. The magic of Fringe lives with the people who built this Festival from the ground up, and who continue to nurture it 40 years later. The vibrant success of the Edmonton Fringe Festival is thanks to the more than 40,000 artists who have bravely taken an artistic risk with us since we exploded onto the scene in 1982. It’s thanks to the more than 800,000 fringers who take creative chances with us every August. It’s thanks to the more than 1,000 volunteers who continue to help build one of North America’s most influential arts movements. But the Festival is just 11 days of activity. We are a home to art 365 days a year. We honour the expanding definition of community and aim to build meaningful relationships with anyone interested in collaboration and artistic growth. The Fringe Theatre Arts Barns is a space for brave conversations and great creative risk. This is where chance encounters grow into meaningful collaborations, where messy first inklings become brilliant realizations. This is a loiter-positive space where you are invited to eat, meet, and create year-round. Fringe Theatre is for you, because fringing is for everyone. We’re happy you’re here, fringer. You belong here.

The city of Edmonton is planning its next 4-year budget, and if you care about the arts, there’s never been a better time to talk about why the arts matter.

Funding for the arts at the municipal level has remained largely unchanged for nearly a decade. At a time when costs continue to rise and arts organizations are being asked to do more with less, we need champions to shout loud and proud: the arts matter here.

Because investing in the arts means investing in local businesses; tourism and economic growth; safer, more connected communities; the development and retention of Artists and arts workers; opportunities for people to gather, create, and dream together.

If the arts have ever made you feel more connected to Edmonton – if a festival, concert, mural, gallery, community event, or theatre show has helped shape your experience of this city – we hope you’ll take a few minutes to share your story at edmontonarts.ca/about/research-impact/why-the-arts-matter

🎨 Look what our littlest Fringers made!

The Alberta Blue Cross Craft Corner was bursting with colour, creativity, imagination, and some truly spectacular pieces of art this Festival.

Thousands of little hands got busy cutting, colouring, gluing, decorating, and turning big ideas into something they could proudly take home.

KidsFringe is all about giving kids the space to make, play, explore, and express themselves. All completely FREE for families.

A HUGE thank you to Alberta Blue Cross for helping make creative play accessible to our community and for supporting another unforgettable year of KidsFringe.

Our enthusiastic thanks to Jubilee Arts, Alberta Blue Cross, Edmonton Public Library, Nordic Mechanical Services, Royal Treats and Special Event Rentals for generously supporting KidsFringe!

One Festival wasn't enough! 650 Light Years Away is back for the Holdover Series!

⭐ 650 Light Years Away
Stardust Players | Edmonton, CA | 65 min | Music/Musical Theatre
Aug 27 (Thu) at 7:00PM (CART Captioned*)
Aug 28 (Fri) at 9:00PM

From the creators of Salsa Lesson, Forget Me Not, Chasing Willie Nelson, Coat of Many Colours and more, comes a voyage in search of belonging. With all new music by Andrea House and Chris Andrew, and with Rubim de Toledo on bass, this story-telling concert combines rap, neo-soul, and jazz to navigate the deep waters between fate and circumstance.

🎉 "It’s dreamy, and like the space references in the piece, it takes audiences on a ride to a whole other musical galaxy–think rap, soaring ballads and more ... The metaphors are touching and musicianship always impressive." - Lucy Haines
🎉 "Will leave you a bit dizzy, and breathless (and so does the multi-branched talent of this remarkable artist). And isn’t that really what you’re after at the Fringe?" - Liz Nicholls, 12thnight.ca
🎉 "This is House at her most vulnerable, unblinking as she scopes the uncertain future with high humour." - 5 STARS Justin Bell, Edmonton Journal
