Hello wonderful audience and orchestra members! For our upcoming May 31st concert, we have an open call for interested string players to help bolster our ensemble numbers for this concert. We are hoping to perform some pieces that are a bit bigger and bolder than normal, and we'd love to increase our string numbers to help us do so!

If you are interested, or know someone who is interested, please pass along our instagram account and our email [email protected]! We can send interested parties more detailed information. The sooner we have more players, the sooner we can confirm our repertoire and go ahead with bowings and arrangements!

We've got some special things planned for this concert, so make sure you don't miss it!

Last but certainly not least, we're rounding out this program with Sergei Prokofiev's Symphony No. 1, also known as the "Classical". Now, you may be wondering to yourself - why call it the "Classical" if it's already 'classical' music? Well, considering the piece was written in 1917, with the transition from the Romantic into Modernist Period, this piece was distinct for its cheeky tributes to Mozart- and Haydn-esque styles. Prokofiev embraced (and some may argue helped establish) the styles of Neoclassicism with this piece, paying homage to some of the greats of 2 centuries prior and reimagining Classical form. It all has its own distinct Prokofiev flair, of course. It's fun, bright, energetic, and keeps you on your toes; you'll be tapping your feet and bobbing your head the whole way through!

Come listen to this and our other pieces live, tonight at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, starting at 7:30PM! Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Hope to see you there!

What a joy to have our wonderful featured performer .miflute help bring this lovely piece to life! Featured piece #3: Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4, aka "Italian"

Last but certainly not least, the entire orchestra is so excited to finally be performing Mendelssohn's 4th symphony together! It's such a fun piece to be a part of, and features complex parts for all sections of the orchestra. Watch fingers fly to keep up with the boisterous tempo - who knew French horns could play so quickly? Separated into 4 distinct movements, Mendelssohn was inspired by a trip he took across Italy, putting his thoughts and impressions of the country into the piece. See if you can picture what he would have felt during his journey!

Tomorrow is the day! Join us Sunday, Nov. 16 at 7:30PM to hear this and other wonderful pieces performed by your River City Chamber Orchestra!

Tickets are available on Eventbrite through the link in our bio, or can be purchased at the door the day of the concert. We hope to see you there!

Introducing wind quintet member Sherri Roy on oboe!

Sherri has been playing music since she was 10 years old, inspired by her Grandfather and sisters. She has a BMus from the University of Alberta from 2005. For the last 22 years, she has been performing as the Edmonton Winds' Principal Oboist. She enjoys teaching clinics, performing with the Borealis Orchestra and playing in musicals when time permits. Getting a chance to perform in front of an orchestra is a great opportunity and has been a great experience.
