Coming up Saturday! Join us to hear from our August Wallace Stegner House resident and recipient of the 1st Big Flat Folk Fest Songwriting Grant Kate Blechinger Music.

Join us for an afternoon with musician Kate Blechinger, the 2026 recipient of the Big Flat Folk Fest Songwriting Grant. We would like to thank IG Eastend Office & Scott Morvik for their sponsorship to make this grant possible.

Kate Blechinger is an award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist originally from oskana ka-asastēki (Regina, Saskatchewan) on Treaty 4 Territory. Now based on Treaty 6 Territory in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta), Kate has been active in the Western Canadian music scene as a solo artist and collaborator since 2013. Kate is a founding member of the 1940's close harmony group, The Jivin' Belles. As a bassist and vocalist, Kate has been part of several Citadel Theatre productions, and accompanied such artists as Ben Sures, Mallory Chipman, Marissa Karpiak, and Borrowed and Blue.

Please welcome Kate Blechinger, Stegner House artist-in-residence for August 2026. Kate is an award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta) on Treaty 6 Territory. Originally from oskana ka-asastēki (Regina, Saskatchewan) on Treaty 4 Territory, Kate frequently draws inspiration from the expansive and evocative prairie landscapes of her youth, making music about love, growth, loss, and the interconnectivity of life. She is the first recipient of the Big Flat Folk Fest Songwriting Grant.

So who had a good time last weekend?? Well we sure did and it's all because of you! This was the 3rd Annual Big Flat and honestly we're all pinching ourselves on how we keep getting so lucky to have the BEST audience, volunteers, artisans, sponsors, crew and artists join us each year. The energy from the very first minute was amazing and it kept building until that final set from The Wilder Blue.

Thank you to every single person who had a part in it.
