Three days. Two horses. One mum. One daughter.

This weekend Mum and I headed to Maple Creek for a Western Dressage and Working Equitation clinic. We spent our days learning, laughing, getting out of our comfort zones, and trying to become better partners for our horses.

The older I get, the more I realize these weekends aren't really about perfect circles, dressage tests, or obstacle courses.

They're about making memories.

Sharing coffee in the morning. Talking horses in our jammies in the neck of the gooseneck trailer. Celebrating the small wins. Being grateful that after all these years, we can still saddle up and learn something new together.

My horse was wonderful. Kim Cox, the instructor was kind and generous with their knowledge and I loved spending time with friends, old and new.

Until next time, Maple Creek.

This little girl spent most of her life believing she was weak.

Too sensitive.
Too small.
Too emotional.
Too shy.
Too affected by things.

And I believed it.

Sometimes I think the bright clothes, creativity, and humor I've wrapped around myself over the years have made it easy to overlook some very big feelings underneath.

So...

What if freezing during a traumatic moment wasn't weakness?

What if telling the truth when nobody wanted to hear it wasn't weakness?

What if raising a child with gentleness isn't weakness?

What if building a small, rural home business isn't weakness?

What if surviving things you never should have had to survive isn't weakness?

I think a lot of women, especially rural women, have been handed a very narrow definition of strength.

Strength was the loudest voice.
The toughest person.
The one who never cried.
The one who carried on no matter what.

But some of the strongest people I know do cry.

They feel deeply.
They express themselves.
They keep showing up.
They keep loving.
They keep trying.
They keep telling the truth.
They apologize when they need to.

Maybe strength isn't the absence of feeling.
Maybe strength is carrying the feeling and continuing forward.

If you've ever been called weak because you cared deeply, this is your reminder:

Sensitivity and weakness are NOT the same thing.

READY-MADE & READY FOR STAMPEDE
No waiting lists.
No custom order timelines.

These belts, pins and bolos are already made, boxed up, and ready to head to their next adventure.

Every piece is handcrafted by me here in Canada using traditional leatherworking techniques and a healthy amount of prairie daydreaming.

Whether you're heading to Stampede, a rodeo, a country concert, or just want an outfit that feels a little more you, these pieces were built to stand out.

And every purchase helps fund summer horse-show adventures for my daughter and I. 🐴❤️

Thank you for supporting handmade, Canadian-made, small business.

Peer review has been mixed. The horse remains neutral.

A custom collar and cuff set for Robin to match her saddle.

Things that would change if they were made for me; snugger fit, and I’d match Calibre’s show halter. So, dark leather, potentially with some sterling engraved tips (stunning 😍).

I've been thinking about something lately.

Whenever I post my artwork, or a project I've poured hours into, I get one kind of response.

Then I’lI post my daughter and the reach is often dramatically larger. Like HUGE.

For a while I wasn't sure what to make of that. Especially in today’s climate.

Was it telling me what people value? Was it telling me what social media values? Was it simply a reminder that people connect with people before they connect with products?

Or, am I feeling guilty?

The truth is, I don't think I have the answer, yet.

What I do know is that my daughter loves life. She loves horses, adventures, stories, and yes, she loves a camera. Her joy is genuine.

And maybe that's what people are responding to, not because she's a child, but because joy is hard to scroll past.

As creators, makers, artists, and business owners, we spend so much time perfecting what we make. Sometimes the thing that resonates most isn't the product itself, but the life surrounding it.

I'm still figuring out what this all means.

But I thought I'd share the thought.
