These are my last 2 short go runs in high school.
Provincial finals- 6.7
Canadian finals- 7.0

Two of the highest “pressure” runs of my high school rodeo career. Had to be under a certain time. Had to be smooth. Had to…

When the pressure is at its highest. It’s important you slow it down, regain control of your brain and pick your focus point. Mine was usually “get low”, you can hear it in almost all of my hsr runs.

Under pressure your brain is already overwhelmed. Don’t give it a step by step on what to do and mistakes to avoid. Bring it back so you’re calm and prepared.

Trust the work you’ve put in. Pick your focus point and do your job.

Pressure doesn’t require more thinking.

It requires trust in the work you’ve already put in.

As we approach the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals. I want to put something out there for you to think about.

✨Appreciate it✨

It’s been 4 years since I won the goat tying at Canadians.
And it was a big moment for me. A huge goal accomplished. But here’s something we as competitors don’t always think about.
🔥The world keeps turning
🔥Your goals keep growing (and those are good things!)
🔥So appreciate the one you’re living now 🔥

Appreciate your parents, the driving, the entry fees, the time, the sacrifice they put in behind the scenes to get you there.

Appreciate your horse, even if they have an off day. Appreciate the work they put in for YOU this year. They don’t know if they’re faster than everyone else or if they win. They are there for you.

Appreciate your health and the opportunity to compete. That your body holds up under pressure and that you are an athlete.

Appreciate the work you put in to get here and all you learned and developed through the season.

🚨Remember🚨
Things don’t happen TO you… they happen FOR you even if you can’t see why.

Don’t be so focused on the ⚡️results⚡️ that you miss the ⚡️experience⚡️. This is someone’s dream, this was YOUR dream. Enjoy it. The good and the bad. Always walk out smiling.

Look around.
⭐️Take in the atmosphere
⭐️Appreciate the energy you get before competing
⭐️Be thankful for the chance to compete
⭐️Pet your horse
⭐️Enjoy time with your friends and make new ones!

Say thank you to everyone who helped you get there.

Be grateful for every run!

Compete hard. Give it all you have. Leave it all out there. Kick butt. Be aggressive.
And ENJOY it.

✖️You’re brain multiplies what you feed it ✖️

If you spend every run looking for everything that went wrong, your brain gets really good at finding mistakes.

If you intentionally look for what went well, your brain gets good at finding progress and building confidence.

Here’s a challenge:
For the next 3️⃣ days write down 5️⃣ good things. Not just at the rodeo but through your day.
Then
➡️ 10 good things for 4 days
➡️ 15 good things for 5

Even on hard days
Even after bad runs

This doesn’t mean ignoring mistakes. It’s recognizing what needs work, making a plan and moving forward.

Don’t let 1 mistake take away from the 10 things you did well.
