Admission to the Gallery is always FREE. The Carnegie Gallery is operated by the Dundas Art & Craft Association an incorporated non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging Canadian art and artists especially from our region. Our next exhibition, "Considering the Edge," debuting on September 4th, features not one but TWO artists: Gise Trauttmansdorff and Barb Sachs.

Sachs has a background in painting, sculpture and film animation, with the last 35 years being devoted to clay as a primary working medium. Every piece that she makes is fired using the raku process. Hand-built animal forms have been a main focus, but with wilder, more stylized creatures, Barb is able to play and let loose, pushing forms into new directions. Play and exploration of ideas are at the heart of making these unlikely characters. Balance, design, surface treatment, as well as stability also factor into the realization of these pieces. Each piece is imbued with a sense of humour and storytelling.

Coming next week!

Andrea Vuletin presents "Effervesce," a new body of work by the Chatham-based Canadian ceramicist, from September 4-27.

The collection that makes up Effervesce has both hand-built and wheel-thrown components that convey different impressions. The thrown elements have a glossy surface over fine illustrations and curvy, fluid forms. Together these may read as confident, joyful, relaxed and reverent. The pod forms are hand-built using impressed slabs and coil and pinch methods, and though they have tight forms, they swirl and collide into one another, generating a variety of implications.

The pods themselves are abstract organic forms and can represent seeds, cells, beads, or stones that may represent containment, potential, meditation, worry or
prayer. The compositions have randomness that can be read as accident or growth, employing balance, movement, and connection.

Pinstripe Trio - Hand built black cone 6 stoneware base with three wheel thrown cone 6 porcelain bottles - clear glaze and underglaze. 16.5"long x 6.5"wide x 14"high.

Effervesce - Hand built cone 6 black stone ware base with green glaze and gold highlights and three wheel thrown cone 6 white porcelain bottles -clear glaze, underglaze and gold highlights. 16.5"long x 5"wide x 12"high.
