Only a few days left to experience this amazing exhibition that explores our evolving relationship with the natural world, biodiversity, and resource extraction.

An award-winning photographer, Ellingsen comes from a family of immigrants who were among the first settlers on Cortes Island. His work draws on this family history—one intertwined with British Columbia's forest industry—and his photographs reflect on how resource extraction and consumption have shaped ecosystems. September 12th is the last day.

We're excited to announce our newest exhibit: Sacred Forms, opening September 25th and running through January 16, 2027, at the Cowichan Public Art Gallery.

Individually, Dr. Cathy Key's paintings and Louise Solecki Weir's sculptures are each quietly powerful. In relationship to each other, they become even more potent.

Painting and sculpture. Lightness and weight. Inner life and outer form. Two artists who developed their ideas independently, arriving at the same place: a deep sense of connection to the living world around us.

Sacred Forms ~ Remembering Your Place in the Living World.

Louise Solecki Weir is an award-winning figurative sculptor based in Vancouver, B.C. Her commitment to classical mastery and anatomical precision has led her to advanced studies across Europe and the United States, including portrait masterclasses in London and Florence, as well as specialized training in forensic facial reconstruction under Karen T. Taylor.

Louise maintains an active studio practice focused on gallery works, international juried exhibitions, and public bronze commissions, including monumental sculptures of Pope John Paul II in Vancouver. In addition to her studio work, she teaches private mentorships and specialized workshops, juries regularly for regional art organizations, and has served on the board and executive committee of the Sculptors' Society of BC.

Weir's sculptures stand with a potent stillness. Their surfaces look weathered by wind, water, and sun, at once fragile and ancient, watchful in a way that invites the viewer to lower their voices without quite knowing why. Working with an ancient material, she creates new life. The clay responds to her touch with its capacity for spontaneity and formal exactitude. The earthy transmutability allows her to capture an idea, an emotion, an expression that speaks volumes.

Sacred Forms ~ Remembering Your Place in the Living World

Dr. Cathy Key is a mixed-media artist based in Victoria, B.C., known for large-scale, layered portraits combining collage, acrylic, ink, and glaze. Drawing on a background in anthropology and decades of practice in yoga and ecstatic dance, her work explores humanity's connection to nature, weaving imagery of plants, coral, and fungi throughout the human form. Key’s work has attracted collectors across Canada, the UK, and the US. She is a recipient of the Sooke Fine Art Show's People's Choice Award and Award of Excellence, and the Gold List Award from Art Market Magazine.

Key's mixed-media paintings draw the viewer in; look closely, and her work reveals consciousness itself — presence, complexity, and transformation hidden in plain sight. Inspired by the great naturalists of the 19th century, she layers collage, acrylic, inks, and translucent glazes; her paintings weave together botanical forms, geometric structures, and luminous human figures. She sees no separation between art, science, and spirituality; the work invites viewers into contemplative encounters that are both intimate and expansive.
