Three commissions ready to go home!
Each one taught me so much and challenged me a little bit more.
Being self taught definitely has its moments where I’m sitting there head in hands just staring at the canvas wondering how in the hell I’m going to get this to look good and have no idea where I went wrong which has me starting over again. Somehow something clicks and it starts fitting together the way I see it in my head. It might just be the shadowing around an eye or blending hair in while keeping the contrast but those tiny victory’s keep me going and from pulling my hair out 😂
I’m so grateful for those who trust me with these pieces. I literally pour my heart and soul into them 🩵

Why would I call my business “West of the Fifth Art”?
Well growing up (and even still) I looked up to my grandpa and loved to hear stories he would tell about his work in the oilfield. How he started out, how he got to where he is and all the craziness in between. One thing for sure is he was the hardest working man that showed up early and never shied away from a challenge. He had maps all over his office of Alberta and of course land locations with the W5 and I’d ask him what that was and he explained how we are located West of the fifth meridian. My grandma would photocopy those maps and I would use them to pretend to look for buried treasure with my dogs 😂
So when trying to think of a name I was in his office in the shop trying to figure out how to build frames with my grandma and I saw the last big map he has hanging up and it clicked.
West of the Fifth is where I was born and raised in this beautiful province and the term reminds me of my grandpa telling his stories of where he worked to build roads, move rigs and so much more.
I’m proud to be Albertan, a grandpas girl, and I hope I can be just as respected, remembered and known for working hard just like him 🖤

Thank you all for following me on my journey and taking the time to get to know me a little better. I can’t wait to steam forward and get new paintings out to the world!

The last few months have been so busy and I finally am getting settled into our new home so that means more paintings to come!
At the moment I am not taking on any more new commissions until the new year, but I still have these paintings available and if you would like a print of any of these three shoot me a message!

My journey on becoming a painter has definitely been a crazy one, but each set back and difficulty has taught me more than anything would have if it had been easy!

One more great solar eclipse photo for you!

This is a series of pictures of the moon eclipse in the sun from Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah!

In 1923, Bryce Canyon experienced a partial eclipse during a total solar eclipse that passed along the Pacific coast. Now during their centennial year, they’ve now come “full circle” with yesterday’s “Ring of Fire” eclipse.

Bryce Canyon won’t be in the direct path of another eclipse for hundreds of years.

Photo Note: This composite image was created by combining an unfiltered vertical image taken during the first half of the eclipse with 11 solar-filtered images of the sun taken at 15-minute intervals throughout the eclipse. It is not possible to view an annular eclipse event without a solar filter. This composite image is intended as a love letter to the landscape, astronomy, and memories woven together by this eclipse.

I just found out that my painting “Black Jack” placed 3rd in the animal and wildlife category at the Art Without Borders juried art show!!
If you were to tell me 2 years ago when I decided to start painting with zero experience that I would have been able to do this I would have thought you were crazy..
I’m so proud of myself and how far I have come. Now a fire has been lit in me to try even harder to learn more and to better myself so that I can create even higher quality paintings in the future 🖤
Thank you to all of you that have always encouraged me, I couldn’t have done it without you!
