For one of the most beautiful women in my life. Lucenia Purificacion, my Tita Enyang, turned 70 years old on Thursday, June 17th of this year. I started this portrait two weeks before, hoping I'd finish in time for her birthday. Though, I don't know if I could ever be so satisfied with my work as to put it down.

I wanted to be as intentional as possible with this piece, not a section of this paper marked without deliberation. There may have been 100 hours poured into this. I'll never be sure. Less, more; it could never be enough.

You ask for nothing, but deserve more than anyone I know. I would give you the world if I could, but for now all I have is this drawing.

So I finally got a new drawing tablet! Working on my foundational skills the last few years has really payed off, but I'm sooooo ready to jump back into digital painting again.

Anyway, here's a quick study of the legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme to help me get used to Paint Tool Sai again. I'm not sure if I like the smoothness, but it was definitely fun to work on! What other 80's action stars should I try drawing next?

Lessons learned from this piece:
𝟏 Sometimes you choose the wrong approach. Sometimes you do that 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 😅 Don't be afraid to scrap a drawing when you know there's a better direction!
𝟐 Most of what makes something difficult to render is having to commit to doing it. Please, 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦, honey just draw the damn hair 🤦🏻‍♀️

Haha, but anyway! I don't think I've ever had as much fun working on a drawing! Shoutout to my work Secret Santa for waiting so long for me to finish lol. Stay tuned, friends! Close-ups of my favourite details from this piece are up next 🤙🏽
