Flowers – their fragrance, vivid colours and intricately and delicately arranged petals – remind
me of my mother. It’s no small wonder that my very first framed still life painting was named
Bouquet for Mom.

This birdbath was in the garden of the first home my husband and I shared. I created this painting in tribute to my mother-in-law. She hung it in her room in the seniors’ residence where she lived for many years. I am deeply grateful from her loving warm welcome when I joined the Morell family. Happy heavenly Mother's Day dear Audrey. Love forever. ❤️

This painting was just finished. I'm amused by the expressions of each of these parrots. Starting with the one to the far left - he wants to get away from the others; the one beside him seems amused; the big guy in the middle, well, he looks like a grumpy old man; while the one to his right looks like a sage; and finally, the plump one to the far right, seems to be detached from the others, possibly wishing for his next meal.

What names would you give them?

In the midst of today's ice storm, my mind goes back to the painting I did in 2023 as a tribute to my Mom.

In the cold drear of winter, I am sad, still grieving the physical absence of my mother, whose cheerful hellos and sweet, good-night kisses are no longer... a nighttime ritual has stopped, and the telephone cannot ring.

And in this silent void, there is the gift of tears. As winter's cold silence passes peacefully, I see the Hope of Easter coming, rising in the sun's faint glow in the far beyond...

This painting emerged within sorrow's gentle but definite grip. In less than 4 painfully serene hours, it emerged, complete and eerily beautiful, speaking more than words can ever express.

This painting did its perfect work....and here's the paradox...I feel the catharsis of pain and joy!
