Hi Dorchester! I’m Evan 👋
My wife and I moved to Dorchester about 6 years ago. We both grew up in Toronto and were looking for somewhere new to put down roots and start a family. We had driven through Dorchester a bunch of times on trips to see family and London, and it always seemed like such a wholesome town.
Since then we’ve welcomed two wonderful girls into our lives, and we found our forever home here last year. Dorchester has really become home for us.
I wanted to create something that would help me get more involved with local community events. I always saw how much the town comes together for fairs, festivals and different events, and I thought I’d give it a shot.
The idea kind of just grew from there. I started thinking about local events, but then realized there was no reason it couldn’t also work for backyard parties, schools, camps, fundraisers, corporate events and pretty much anywhere kids and families could enjoy it.
I just wanted to build something people would have fun with and bring it to them.
Seeing people enjoy something that I built is probably one of the best parts. I love seeing how excited kids get when they make a putt. I also love seeing families use the course together and watching everyone get a little competitive. I always like to remind the adults that they can play too!
One of the coolest days we’ve had so far was at the Salvation Army London Village. We had seven different groups come through, from seniors and daycare to day camp, an autism program, youth and adults with developmental disabilities and overnight programs. There was so much laughter and so many smiles throughout the day.
I’d love to see Short Game Tour become a staple at local events around the area. Maybe even do a bit of a fair tour through different communities each fall. I’d also love to eventually expand the course to a full 18 holes. I’ve got tons of ideas for new holes and obstacles already.
I’ve learned that when you put in the work and create something people enjoy, the support you can get back from the community is pretty amazing.
We’ve done school fundraisers, birthdays, corporate gatherings, PetFest, the Dorchester Fair, Cornfest, camps and all kinds of community events. We’re even heading back to Cornfest again this year!
It’s been really cool to see how quickly word of mouth can grow something like this. ⛳️
