Otipemisiwak Métis Government - Survey for Transport Canada's Proposed Updates to Pleasure Craft Licensing Requirements
The Consultation Department is conducting a survey regarding Transport Canada’s proposed updates to pleasure craft licensing requirements to understand how these changes might impact Métis Citizens who own and use pleasure crafts for fishing and other rights practices.
Transport Canada has proposed updates to the current pleasure craft licencing requirements, which may affect you. These changes include the following:
Set a new five-year validity period for all pleasure craft licences.
Change the timeframe licence holders have to update their contact information from 90 days to 30 days.
Require that a new owner of a pleasure craft apply for the transfer of a pleasure craft licence upon its purchase.
Introduce a new $24 service fee, subject to annual inflation, for pleasure craft licence services, such as: Issuance of a pleasure craft licence, renewal of a pleasure craft licence, transfer of a pleasure craft licence, and request for a replacement pleasure craft licence.
Expand the Minister of Transport’s authority to cancel a pleasure craft license for noncompliance or upon a licence holder’s request.
If you believe the proposed updates affect you directly, we encourage you to fill out the survey. Additionally, please consider forwarding it to others including citizens, Elders, and/or Knowledge Holders who may also find it relevant.
The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. You can access the survey through the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PleasureCraftSurvey
