Funk Island Lab is excited to announce our 3-part Youth Recording and Production Workshop Series!

Taking place in Halifax October 3, 10 and 24, this FREE interactive series will help students elevate their skills in taking a song from idea to finished track! We will cover recording basics, advanced editing / production techniques, and mixing and mastering. All recording equipment (including laptops with Logic Pro X production software) will be provided.

Whether you have studio experience, or you simply want to know how to make demos of your songs at home, this series is for you!

We are thrilled to announce our instructors for this series will be Breagh Isabel, Guest Room Records | Laura Rae and Corey LeRue - all award-winning producers and engineers behind some of your favourite music.

Out everywhere today. “Quicksand” was written on the last day of a Funk Island Lab and Brilliant Labs / Labos Créatifs songwriting camp at the saltytowersnb in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick with my good friend Chris Kirby and a student participant Claira Blanchard

I love how this one came together seamlessly in the Sonic Temple Recording Studio studio with Geoff Arsenault creating all that texture, Ronald Joseph Hynes with the heartbeat and Parachute Mastering making magic as always. Big team effort on this one and I couldn’t be more proud. Hope you enjoy.

✨ Big News ✨

We are excited to annouce that Funk Island Lab Music Society was one of the successful applicants for the 2025 Soundwaves Community Fund.

This program enabled us to purchase four music production stations, including MacBooks with Logic Pro, microphones, MIDI controllers, audio interfaces, headphones, and studio monitors.

The funding will also support upcoming workshops in production, engineering, and mixing/mastering.

We’re incredibly grateful for this support and excited to offer enhanced, hands-on learning experiences for songwriting students across Atlantic Canada.

Proceeds from this event will support Funk Island Lab Music Society, a non-profit organization that hosts songwriting and music production camps and workshops. These programs bring together professional writers, emerging artists, with youth from Atlantic Canada to collaborate, create, and learn in a diverse and inclusive environment.
