📣Today is the day! 👗Frenchys: The Thrift Musical performs for its first ever audience this afternoon, in a SOLD OUT workshop presentation as part of the STAGES Theatre Festival! Thank you to 🌊Eastern Front Theatre, our incredible cast and creative team, and to YOU - the local Nova Scotian audience for already wrapping your arms around this little-show-that-could. We are so excited for what the future brings for Frenchys: The Thrift Musical!

Frenchys: The Thrift Musical is the story of four women from three generations of the same East Coast family who have been distanced by time and Covid and who try, during a twenty-four-hour road trip/reunion, to get along. Getting along is complicated by their unique internal struggles. Gail is going through a divorce and is overwhelmed. Marj is stuck in her jeans and her youthful glory days. Nineteen-year-old Tessa, Gail's daughter, has a fashion sense that is unemployable. And the matriarch is Sally, a sixty-five-year mother/grandmother who has a secret no one can guess. All these women need to change and the metaphor for that change is clothes and where do you find clothes at a fraction of regular retail? Frenchys.

“It’s about three generations of women who get trapped in a Frenchy’s overnight,” notes McCormack. “It’s a four-part almost barbershop harmony quartet. It’s pretty amazing.”

Dedicated to providing a venue for original Atlantic Canadian works, Stages runs June 6 to 11 at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth.

Meet the cast of 👗Frenchys: The Thrift Musical!
⭐️ RILEY REIGN will play the role of Tessa in our reading presentation at Alderney Landing Theatre in Dartmouth as part of the STAGES Theatre Festival on June 11th at 3:30pm.
⭐️ Riley Reign is an interdisciplinary artist, creator and activist based in Kjipuktuk, with their Masters in Musical Theatre Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. As an actor their recent credits include Ben in Good Grief (TV), Syd in Hailey Rose (Feature Film), Dawn in Deeper, Jess in I Am Not A Hero (Feature Film), and Jane in So Not Punk Rock. As a writer and composer they recently created brainstorm, first commissioned by Eastern Front Theatre as part of their Macro Digital’s:Connections. Reign is a long term thrift store aficionado and even has a favorite Frenchys - which is, of course, Bridgewater’s.

Meet the cast of 👗Frenchys: The Thrift Musical!
⭐️ AMY REITSMA will play the role of Marjorie in our reading presentation at Alderney Landing Theatre in Dartmouth as part of the STAGES Theatre Festival on June 11th at 3:30pm.
⭐️ Born in Halifax, NS, Amy gained her BMus (voice) at Queen’s University, spent nine years working extensively across the Maritimes as an actor and singer, and then moved to the U.K. to pursue her MA (acting) at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She lived in London (U.K.) for seven years working as an actor, voiceover artist and singer before pregnancy, a pandemic and a shiny new husband made her turn homeward once again. Now she has a toddler, a three month old baby, and lives in the bustling metropolis of Seabright. She is delighted and grateful to be working with these fabulous people.

⭐️ Geneviève is thrilled to be joining this crackerjack team on their bargain hunt. A few recent credits include The Myth of the Ostrich (Theatre Baddeck), Cottagers and Indians (Watermark Theatre), Half Cracked (Ship’s Company Theatre) and Calendar Girls (Neptune Theatre). It’s been a beat since she has done a musical but there are a couple in her past (A Chorus Line, Les Miserables). This summer you can find Geneviève performing at Point Pleasant Park with Shakespeare by the Sea. In her down time, Geneviève loves a good day of thrifting, especially at the Frenchy’s in Coldbrook; always on the hunt for other people’s ‘choux gras’ as her MamaLise would say!
