The Razberry Jam is a musical project born from the camaraderie of friends and neighbours nestled in the heart of the Morden/Winkler area. Formed in 2023, their flavours include story driven, folky originals and reimagined covers that spread easily across decades and genres.
Hailing from Pilot Mound, Mason “Mason Jar” Weselowski plays the acoustic guitar, drawing from his roots as a singer-songwriter. With a musical journey stretching back to his teenage years, Mason has shared the stages at festivals such as the Harvest Moon, Winnipeg Folk Fest, and Prairie Winds Festival.
On bass, Henry “The Duke” Dueck helps hold down the rhythmic foundation of the Jam. Henry’s musical odyssey commenced at the age of 15. Along the way he journeyed through various bands (Sour Gurkins, Alafalonga, Murtle, End Of Winter) before settling into the groove of The Razberry Jam. A seasoned professional since 1999, Henry’s diverse musical background brings depth and flair to the group's sound.
Banging on the pots and pans is Mike “GrooveHound” Hiebert. Mike's percussion journey has traversed genres ranging from rock and pop, to jazz and folk. A true professional in his own right, Mike's dedication to his craft led him to study under the esteemed Joe Porcaro at the Los Angeles Music Academy, graduating with top honors in Music Performance.
On Fiddle is Jason “The Maestro” Vanwynsberghe. When he was 7, Jason was signed up for violin lessons even though he wanted to play guitar like all the cool kids. Eventually he realized violin is cool too, and went on to study violin performance and music composition from Brandon University. He also has a full studio of violin students and conducts the Advanced String Orchestra for the Douglas Kuhl School of Music.
Opening act will be Zach Kin & Copper, family trio of Kelsey Reimer, Joelle Waldner and Corey Zacharias. This local group’s country, folk and bluegrass repertoire features the tight harmonies that these siblings are well known for.
The concert starts at 7:00 pm at the Crystal City Parklane Theatre and is a fundraiser for ongoing operation of the venue. A cash bar will be available. Tickets are $25 and available only at the door. Doors open at 6:00 pm.

Last minute reminder of tonight's show Padre X at the Parklane.
As Remembrance Day approaches, this story of a nearly forgotten Canadian chaplain who was awarded the Victoria Cross makes the hell of war crystal clear.
And it also personalizes the many sacrifices made by so many.
You won't regret it.

A timely drama for Remembrance Day.
We invite you to Padre X on Friday, Nov 8 at 7 pm.
Tickets $25 at CC Bistro and at the door.

A review of the upcoming Padre X show at the Parklane:

“Padre X is the amazing true story of Canadian WWII Captain John Weir Foote: the only chaplain to win the Victoria Cross during the Second World War.”

CBC Review

Marc Moir is unabashed.
To watch this gifted young man tackle the life of a genuine Canadian hero - WWII Chaplain John Weir Foote - with such spiritual and emotional credibility is a joyful experience.

Make no mistake, Moir is the real thing: an actor and writer of economical simplicity. We're in the land of Horton Foote and Ivan Doig here, a land where concepts such as loyalty, bravery, fear and terror were felt viscerally. There used to be a news type program called You Are There where Cronkite would take you back to seminal moments in history. Moir does the same.

Facts abound, characters come to life: the beach head of Dieppe, the sea wall, the smoke, the fire, the blood, the sweat, the madness. His characterizations from N**i to Scotsman to stiff-upper-lippers are pitch perfect. And he looks the part, from proud strong jaw to
spit shined shoes, his voice evoking a tinge of James Stewart when he chokes up. He sheds a tear at the end: one, a real one. It's electric.

If you're the older type who don't think they make art for you any more, and for youngsters unaccustomed to theatre that celebrates simple grace and humanity - buy a ticket.

As the government contemplates cutting funds to Veteran Affairs because so many soldiers have passed away, here is a chance to remember without bathos what an awful (in both senses) time it was. I don't know that men like Foote still walk among us still,
but for a short time they do at the Pantages.

A pure triumph.
