Drinnon with friends. Yarrow did the whole 5 hours, barefoot. It rained and shone and was wonderful. So good to be high up in the mountains again, I haven't been in years and haven't taken my kids up to the alpine at all, but that trend will change.
What an exquisite summer!

Remembering you Shamus, born 48 years ago today. A good day to be born!
With love, forever πŸ’«πŸ’–πŸ’«

The kids and I picked nettles yesterday, using Shamus' basket and the hat he's wearing in the third picture. As we were picking, I said "Shamus is with us in the nettles, and the wind." And the next moment, Ronia's hat blew off πŸ˜‡

The first two poems are by Mary Oliver. "Wild Geese" Shamus had picked for a project in college, and recited to me when we first met. It's become a favorite; isn't it beautiful?
The poem "On the Death of the Beloved" is by John O'Donohue... it must have been written with Shamus in mind πŸ₯Ή

I think the snow is here to stay. Bye bye earth and dirt, we'll see you in March 😭 I'm more of a summer lover.
I wonder if Orion prefers summer too? After this walk, we promptly cut his hair short, from the waist down, and he looks sooo funny 😁 but no more snow balls!

Done!
Well, almost... enough for my tenants to move in, which they did, yesterday! This project has been a year in the making, more actually, and it's so surreal to finally have people living here.
I was up till 2 am Friday, finishing a ton of little details, including hemming the kitchen curtains I had made from my scrap fabric.
Feels good to be at this stage 😊

My dad installed this custom made shelf in the suite today, that he's been working on this week. Made from painted plywood and old pine tongue and groove boards, and fitted together on location.

Tomorrow we'll move the appliances in and assemble the island my dad made from a little birch cabinet I found on marketplace.

Go Rogier go! πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

A little life hack for all the Waldorf folks and crafty people out there, who want to make twisted yarn- use a drill! This one's courtesy of Shamus- a MacGyver to the core 😁
Tie the two colors of yarn together, put one end under the leg of a chair, tie the other to a drill, and wind in the same direction as the twist of the yarn. Then align the two loose ends of each color and hold the knot, while easing the twisted yarn into one, multicolored, candy cane yarn.

We're busy making ornaments for the children's only store, for the Waldorf Winter Faire, next Saturday 10-3 at the Nelson Waldorf School.

Big changes with the suite this past week.
A few restless nights, for me, but I'm smiling now.

I'm so greatful to .amy.hall for her excellent skill painting and sweet company, to Johnny and Greg for showing up to do all the jobs that needed doing, and most importantly, to my dad, who made this project possible, who helped me envision it and carry it out over the past year and a half. Last, but not least, to Shamus, for having the long term vision, eagle overview and incredible drive to work tirelessly, take many calculated risks 😜 and buy this large, solid house, which provides us and now another family, a beautiful place to live!
I'm forever greatful πŸ’–

More pictures to come- by next Saturday it'll be ship shape and I'll want to show it off!

This September, for her 12th birthday, Ro was gifted a cake icing set from her Nana and a pasta making attachment from her Opa. Since then she's been practicing, improving, and making delicious food!

Painting progress this week.
I think this is my favorite part, aside from the design phase. Made especially lovely with my friend and painter .amy.hall who originally painted this house for Shamus 15 years ago! 🀍 She's back, making the transformation happen, and I'm helping her where I can.
First layers of primer are on the downstairs walls and ceiling.

I don't know where to start with this post...
I'm going back to pictures from March! I haven't documented on IG much, despite how exciting the progress is to share.
So here it is! My passive income project, which is taking up all of my funds and more, plus most of my energy, but which is hopefully going to be a good investment! An 850 sq ft suite designed and almost fully constructed by my dad with my help. We reused materials, were gifted some and bought others on MP. It has been a very low cost project, since my dad only requires lunch and the odd snack 😜 but since I hired a carpenter for reframing the bathroom and all of the drywall, the cash has been flowing out of my hands like a river! 😬
I'm hoping it will be ready to live in by mid November.

Pictured:
1/2 The stringers for the stairs, inspected by Yarrow, and routered by my dad.
3 The new stairs, painted, varnished and assembled, ready to install (and VERY heavy!)
4 Yarrow helping pull out the old framing in the bathroom, to make space for the shower.
5 The red wall where we cut into the existing bathroom to make a doorway in, above the new stairwell.
6 Rogier cutting out and removing all the floor joists to make an opening for the stairs. They were nailed to the wall with a million spikes!
7 The floor cut away upstairs, for the new stairwell.
8 After my dad cut out the flooring for the stairwell, looking down on the concrete steps below and a little tour of the suite in its framing stage.
9 The beam. It's been here, holding up this floor since the 90's
10/11 A tour of the suite today!

Looking back on last winter:
My dad helped me make 3 large shelving units out of 15 free garage doors.
We made a clean and clear space for play.
The list of finishing may go on forever πŸ™ˆ but it's functioning!
The last one is of the gorgeous peace at the North end of Slocan Lake, in March, which underwent a big blaze this summer πŸ”₯
