Comox Valley Buzz endorses the following for the City of Courtenay — echoing the thoughtful recommendations from Decafnation (decafnation.ca/politics/2026-courtenay-endorsements/).

🏛️ Mayor: Bob Wells
This was the hardest call I’ve made in this election. My instinct pulled strongly toward Trish McPhail — a 40-year valley resident, First Nations Cultural Presenter and Knowledge Keeper, and exactly the kind of new, historic voice I’d love to see lead this city. In the end, I weighted the advice of some very trusted friends and community voices more heavily than my own inclination, and they pointed consistently to Bob. Both are quality candidates, and Trish McPhail absolutely belongs in this conversation.

🗳️ Council: Wendy Morin
Two terms of experience, a strong social conscience, and a consistent champion for below-market housing. Exactly the stabilizing voice new councillors will need.

🗳️ Council: Evan Jolicoeur
A Registered Nurse, First Nations administrator, and mental health and addictions clinician — the most qualified candidate to guide council through Courtenay’s most complex human challenges.

🗳️ Council: Kelly Matthews
29 years of military service, a Master’s in Environment and Management, and deep roots in community leadership. The new candidate most likely to contribute meaningfully from day one.

🗳️ Council: Thomas McDevitt
A young entrepreneur and chair of the Comox Valley Farmers’ Market Board. A fresh, upbeat voice for small business, local agriculture, and food security.

While some degree of change is inevitable, I believe that Comox must responsibly manage and strategically respond to the pressures to change the Town’s character. Council’s approach must be informed by what the Town’s residents want and choices that will carry us sustainably into the future. I am running for Comox Council because I believe that my education, experience and passion for public service position me as someone who can help to steward our town in a responsible and equitable way.

Set to bluegrass music and murder ballads, this irreverently presented, knee-slapping ensemble show fuses gallows humour and vaudevillian horror.

A musical celebration of the 1970’s - year by year, hit by hit - from the songbooks of Billy Joel and Elton John. “The Piano Men Starring Jim Witter” tickles the ivories on our stage Fri Oct 16! Co-presented as part of our Centre Stage Series, we can’t wait to enjoy this iconic night with you.
