A pop-up exhibit of interdisciplinary research outcomes from the project “Connecting Place, Art, and Science: Spruce Budworm and its Impacts” is open for two more days, featuring new works by visual artists Cy Byrne and Lori Deeley. Open October 1 and 2 from 11:00am to 4:00pm

Please note we will be closed from October 3 to 23 as we install our next exhibition.

Today, Monday September 28th, is the deadline for Grenfell Campus visual arts alumni to submit expressions of interest for the next Fine Arts Balcony public artworks.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Connecting Place, Art & Science: Spruce Budworm and its Impacts programming this weekend! 🐛 🐛 🐛

The pop-up exhibit will be open this week, Monday through Friday, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a couple of exceptions:

➡️ Tuesday: The Gallery will open at 12:00 PM so our staff can participate in the Every Child Matters flag raising at 11:00 AM at the Grenfell Campus flagpoles. All are welcome to attend.

➡️ Wednesday: The Gallery will be closed in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

As always, admission is free and free parking is available in the designated spots, marked by yellow signage in front of the Fine Arts Building. Please register your vehicle at the gallery.

Grenfell Art Gallery is partnering with researchers Dr. Camille O. Dallaire, Dr. Rachel Jekanowski, and interdisciplinary artist Megan Samms to host a weekend sharing research outputs from the project, Connecting Place, Art and Science: Spruce Budworm and Its Impacts, including a pop-up exhibition with new work by visual artists Cy Byrne and Lori Deeley in response to the project.

This research was funded in part by Natural Resources Canada.

On Saturday afternoon we will be holding a public closing reception for the two gorgeous exhibitions we have had the pleasure of hosting over the past three months.

We will be joined by artist collaborators Nasim Makaremi Nia and Megan Samms to speak in conversation about their exhibition, 𝕣𝕖𝕔𝕚𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕤𝕡𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖, and Jenelle Pasiechnik, visitor curator of Farheen Haq’s touring exhibition, میں اپنی ماں کی بیٹی ہوں | I am my mother’s daughter.

Saturday is the final day to see these exhibitions - we will be swiftly transitioning the gallery to a pop-up exhibit featuring multidisciplinary research outputs of the research project, “Connecting Place, Art and Science: Spruce Budworm and its Impacts”. This research was led by Dr. Camille O. Dallaire, Dr. Rachel W. Jekanowski, and artist researcher Megan Samms and involves a network of artists, scientists and community collaborators. Farheen Haq joins us tomorrow, Thursday September 10th at noon for a public artist talk about her 25 year practice as a visual artist, and her solo exhibition, ‎میں اپنی ماں کی بیٹی ہوں   |   I am my mother’s daughter, on now at the gallery until September 26.

This past week, Farheen has been in residence at Bonne Bay Aquarium and Research Station, experimenting with textiles, performance, collage and drawing. Grenfell visual arts alumna, Shireen Merchant, joined Farheen at BBARS for a few days and will be creating a written and visual response to the exhibition and their time in-residence together which we will share later this month.

Farheen Haq’s solo exhibition, میں اپنی ماں کی بیٹی ہوں | I am my mother’s daughter, circulated by Campbell River Art Gallery, is open at Grenfell Art Gallery until September 26.

Farheen is headed to Bonne Bay Aquarium and Research Station today for a week to get acquainted with beautiful western Ktaqmkuk!
