On Wednesday, we presented "The Father" for the last time, and yesterday was the gala closing the Fraser Valley Zone Theatre Festival. We ended the night with 3 awards, 2 special mentions, and a heart so full it could explode.
This was my first solo directing project, and I am so freaking proud. I pitched this play a year ago, and I poured every bit of me into it for the past 3 months.
This story felt so important to tell, I wanted to bring healing to the world through laughter, tears, and storytelling. With everything I've lived through, I've developed a crippling fear of losing my memories, my sense of self, and my relationships to the people who made me who I am. "The Father" allowed me to make peace with that fear, to see love shine through tragedy, to see laughter through tears and light in the dark. It's been an honor to tell this story.
None of this would've been possible without the amazing cast and crew that worked on this project. Thank you for your trust, for your respect and love of the craft, for your passion and dedication to this project, this story, and these characters.
On to the next!
