WEATHER PATTERNS | Landon Mackenzie

What do you see in these dotted, sandstone-inspired paintings—a charged nervous system, a celestial body or the speckled surface of a riverbed?

In Weather Patterns, Vancouver-based artist Landon Mackenzie explores the connection between internal and external landscapes through large-scale paintings on linen canvases shaped by their environment.

For this bi-coastal project, Mackenzie first stapled river-soaked linen to a wooden porch on Prince Edward Island, where she applied a multitude of colours. After the canvases interacted with the East Coast's summer tides and weather, she rolled and shipped them to her Vancouver studio, responding to the transformed surfaces.

The resulting paintings bring together paint, weather and place, revealing how the environment can become part of the artistic process.

✏️ Life Drawing is back at Evergreen Arts.

Looking for a space to draw, observe and practice? Join our Life Drawing Artist Sessions, non-instructional studio sessions for artists of all skill levels.

Draw from live, undraped models in a variety of poses while developing your observation skills and exploring proportion, anatomy and the human figure.

We provide the studio space, easels and drawing boards. Please bring your own art materials and supplies.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | September 30

On September 30, Evergreen Arts recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and honours Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and those who continue to carry the impacts of this history.

September 30 is an opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect on the history and legacy of the residential school system.

We encourage our community to learn more about the history of residential schools and the experiences of Survivors.

TEA, TOUR & TEXTILES: KNITTING THE LANDSCAPE

Looking for a different kind of morning? Come for the art, the landscape, the conversation—or simply some time together.

If you love nature, enjoy exploring art, or have been looking for an occasion to reconnect with friends or spend a creative morning with someone special, join us at the Gallery at Evergreen Arts.

Begin with a private guided tour of Landon Mackenzie: Weather Patterns, an exhibition inspired by riverbeds, tidewaters, celestial systems and the elemental forces of place.

Then, relax in our lakeside lobby with tea, coffee and light refreshments before taking part in a hands-on textile session inspired by Mackenzie’s creative process and use of linen.

Bring your own knitting project or try something new with guidance from our arts specialist. No previous knitting experience is required.
