Van Isle Clayworks My name is Pille and it’s so nice to meet you! I live and create on the beautiful Vancouver Island.

This is the face of someone doing kiln math in her head. How many mugs fit on a shelf, how many firings until the first show, and whether I can squeeze in one more batch. The twisty handle mugs are back for the holidays, but only at the markets this year. This one’s still raw clay and will look completely different once it’s glazed and fired. And yes, the apron is clean. It’s my beloved Walking Apron and it just came out of the wash. Give it until lunch.

Three seasons in, and I can finally show you what Artisan Clay Society members have been getting in their mailboxes. Petal Plum, Riptide and First Light.
Each quarter, members get a mug I make just for them, a matching piece like a spoon rest or trinket dish, and a signed card about what inspired the season. Q4 is open now and closes October 20. Boxes ship the second week of December, so if you’ve got a pottery lover on your list, this one lands right on time.

What’s the Q4 glaze? Not telling. Nobody sees it until every box has shipped.

Nobody needs another candle from the drugstore 😉. I’ll be at the Crafty Farmhouse Market in Sidney on October 23-25, with a table full of colourful wheel-thrown stoneware, lots of it brand new. Mugs for the coffee people, bowls for the snack people, oil dispensers, garlic grater salad dressing bowls, and a few pieces for the person who’s impossible to buy for. Come early for the best pick, and bring a friend so you have someone to blame when you buy one for yourself too.
