Soper Creek Yarn

Soper Creek Yarn Where Beautiful Projects Begin! Located in Historic Village of Orono. A bright shop filled with everything you need to complete a knitting project.

Great gifts for your knitting friends too! The Shop opened at 80 King Street West, Bowmanville on December 1st, 2008 and in June 2013 we expanded into the shop next door, doubling the space. In 2019 we downsized the shop and moved everything to a 1920"s Bank Building, with vaults still inside, in the beautiful Village of Orono, Ontario.

“A souvenir is an object you buy, collect, or keep to remind you of a place, holiday, or special event!”

We traveled a bit last week and stopped at a LYS on the way home. Before ‘Soper Creek Yarn’ we would stop on the way and pick up some Briggs & Little yarn.
This one found its way into my knitting and eventually will join the others I have saved for a future project. I will remind of the journey home!

If you are out traveling this summer you have my permission to visit those local yarn shops and pick up a skein or two! (They would love to see you!)
Tell them Tina sent you!

Safe travels!

A good knit!

Palette Cleanser Scarf by Anna Johanna using Koigu KPPPM and a lace weight kid mohair blend.

It’s great for a weekend take along project. The pattern includes both written and charted directions. It’s a nice small size, if you are a ‘tight’ knitter there is enough y yarn to use a slightly larger needle (be mindful if the stitches are bigger you will use more yarn)

I would love to try a larger version using thicker yarn and bigger needles!

I took some time to create ‘kits’

Enjoy this first week of Summer!

Photo shoot day?

Getting a ‘product’ onto the online shop takes so many steps. Everyone of them requires a bit of patience and time. Photos are the most difficult as the lighting has to be right to capture the best representation of the colours in the project.

Then there is the internet, which today decides to be a bit unpredictable?

It is a beautiful day, there are weeds to pull in the garden, you will find me outside!

Finished Project Friday!

Cupcake by Tin Can knits. It was a good knit, especially when I decided to avoid sleeve island by making a short sleeved version. The yarn is Indulgence Sport Hand paint, it worked well for the gauge, but I struggled a bit with the pooling on the body of the sweater. I divided the yarn into 2 balls and knit them helically.

It fit LittleSis, I made the size 6/8, she’s not that big, but kids have this thing that they grow while you aren’t looking!

When I have some time I will knit this again, Estelle double knit would work quite well, and if you want to spoil someone Jasmine dk by Koigu would be a great option as well.

Work in progress!

This scarf has been a great project to knit. These small scarves are a great travel project that eventually could be a nice gift. It will take just one of the Koigu KPPPM and one 25 gram ball of a lace weight kid mohair.

I dug through the inventory to come up with some nice options. I will assemble the sets and put them online soon. ($30for the ‘kit’)

The pattern is on ravelry, the designer has both charted and written instructions.

I hope to have it done soon!

We spent a couple of days on the road! There was an opportunity to knit a few rows. TheFarmer and I split the driving. He loves to check out the crops as I drive and I knit when it’s his turn. I was impressed that I managed the heel turn on this pair of socks. Every time I finish these few rows I always have to stop and admire this bit of engineering.

The yarn is like knitting with butter, it’s so soft.

The pattern is Twizzler Socks by Tangled Bekah , (free on ravelry)

The joys of social media! Yesterday’s instagram post did not automatically find its way here. I am hoping that resolves without too much effort.

I found a box filled with Sudz dishcloth cotton, it was at the bottom of a stack, they are always on the bottom.
They were added to the website and are ready to go!

Take a dishcloth project with you when you visit a cottage and leave it there as a thank you!
(One of my favourite people would knit dishcloths while sitting on a lawn chair in a pool when she went on holiday.)

Throwback Thursday!

This pair of socks were designed by Ann Hanson, a great designer. Her patterns are well written and most of the time you will learn a new thing. The yarn is Gedifra Lana Mia Uni. I may have put them on sale!

There has been a lot of sorting and I am finding a few things to put on sale, ‘too much of not enough’ .

Finished Project Friday!

Can you see how much I love this sweater! It took a few weeks to make this, usually sweaters take months. The design by is well designed, I loved the combination of the round yoke and raglan increases. The yarn is KPPPM from my stash, some were a project that I abandoned and other bits were skeins I adopted. The Kid mohair lace was a 1000 meter skein from our friends at Hand Maiden yarn, I think it’s discontinued.

The garment did grow a bit after blocking, but the fit is perfect. These loosely knit garments will do that, so be careful of your gauge and maybe swatch if you aren’t sure.

I might try this one again with a worsted weight yarn for a classic garment.
