I’ve been making, enjoying and posting a lot of Crystalline glazed porcelain this past while! Love it. But I just wanted to let my local friends know I still have functional stoneware “Art for every day” in my Studio show space for last minute gifting! Always popular wedding gifts - Just call ahead.

Waiting for the kiln to cool today - always new surprises to intrigue. Here are a few yummy little cups from the last firing. Once I learned the “secrets” to making them pop off the pedestals with just one tap, life in the studio got easier! No more grinding or torching 🥂

Which do you prefer - before (left) or after (right)?
Have you ever heard of “Strike Fired” Pottery? I often use this additional low temperature firing technique, done after the pots have been glazed fired and the crystals are already grown. I’ve found that it can pop the colours and enhance the depth of the crystals in several of the formulations I have created.
Well I was asked to submit an article on Strike Firing for a new book called “Exploring Crystalline Glazes” by Diane Creber and here are my before/after pics that accompany the published description of this process. I also have an Artist’s feature, along with other Potter friends who specialize in these complex crystal glazes. The book will be out soon in Canada and the USA. and I’m excited to get my copy!
