Day 10: Brain Tumour Awareness
Now that Avery is a little older, sometimes the little things that we do, is her worse enemy. For example, reading. If you can read this post even with glasses, imagine enhancing the screen so that you are able to see two letters on the screen. Try it. Or better yet, grab an old pair of glasses and put some vaseline on the lenses. Cover them. Put them on and see if you can see out of them. This is what Avery sees. Everyday. We will take her losing her vision over what the saddest outcome would of been.

Day 9:


Once you get that diagnosis, not just the patient but the family, sends you on a spin. Avery had to learn hand eye coordination, balancing, walking, almost everything that we take for granted. The family as whole also had to learn how to adapt to those two ugly words "brain tumour". We had to learn how to care for her but yet also let her be her.

She was bullied when she went back to school by the teacher saying that she was faking and that she was just lazy. Believe you me, the as***le that compared his injury to Avery having brain surgery was a complete joke. She had to learn how to put up with the nonsense from that ass. Had to tell Avery that not all people are like that and it gets better as we all learn how to cope with everything.

This diagnosis did not break her, it made her powerful!!!

Brain Tumour Awareness Day 5:

Seven years ago. It has been that long. Please, if your child complains of headaches, you take them to the doctor, and if your doctor dismisses them, do not leave until you have better answers or testing to be scheduled. If our doctor took the time, we may not have been put through the trauma of our diagnosis.

TURN MAY GREY!! Here we are, another month of trying to find a cure, or someway to detect brain tumours early. This is day one. As stated, this month is all about awareness, educating and taking you on this journey my family went on. Ours started 7 years ago, and to condense that into one month is difficult, but as long as the main points are noted. Wishing you all good health and safety during this time and look forward to taking you on our brain tumour journey.

With everything going on in the world, hope you all stay safe and protected. This is something that we will all get through. Remember to practice social distancing, wash your hands as much as possible, and if you have traveled please self-isolate. It is the best thing that you can do for yourself and for humanity.

While this year we are not doing an event, I am participating in the College of Ontario Lived Experience. It is a new group that is put together by the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. My goal is to find a way to determine if there is a way to detect juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma in babies through a blood or urine test to prevent issues that we almost had with Avery. Stay tuned, next year we will be back with a vengeance and I am looking forward to it already!!
