I had a really wonderful time with my dear friend Adam-Michael James looking back on 20 years of producing records on Prince Edward Island for the isletunes podcast!

This is a super extended episode so feel free to digest it in smaller chunks, but I hope you'll give it a listen, as it features some of the recordings I am most proud of throughout my career, as well as ones to which I have a personal connection.

Thanks for having me Mike, it was truly a pleasure!

Sat down with this guy (only Jon Matthews from The Sound Mill | Recording Studio!) to rap about his 20-year career - plus of course play jams from it - and we grooved so hard we ended up with the longest isletunes episode *ever*! 🤣 But it is so worth it, so pack a lunch and get the scoop on how songs from Meaghan Blanchard, Andrew Waite, Cynthia MacLeod and The Chucky Danger Band (proto Paper Lions) came to be...for starters! We had a lot of fun with this and you're gonna love it, too! 😎🎵📱🎶

Summer's coming, and I've had another full and rewarding winter and spring here in the 'Mill.

Over the next bit, I'll be taking some time to fill you in on some of the recent work I've done in the past year. Sometimes I get so busy doing the work that I forget to update you on what I've been up to!

First off, I'd love to introduce you to a wonderful album of songs I had the pleasure of co-producing, engineering, mixing, and mastering for my dear friend Cindy Vanneste.

These country, bluegrass and folk songs are very special to Cindy, with their roots tracing back to the times she would jam with her late dad. They tell her family's story, but also trace her own personal musical lineage and passion, from the h***y tonks on Broadway in Nashville, to the US bluegrass festival stages, to the ceilidhs and concerts of PEI.

As Cindy herself does not consider herself a "singer" but a songwriter, we took a unique approach, which was to "cast" a lead singer for each of the songs. What that has given us is a gathering of the Island's wonderful vocal talent, including Maxine MacLennan, Lawrence Maxwell, Brian J Dunn, Keira Loane, Joey Kitson, myself (Jon Matthews) and more. These singers brought their A game to the material, and we are very grateful.

We also assembled a tremendous spectrum of musical talent from here on the Island, and much farther afoot. I played many guitars, bass, drums and various other bits and bobs. We also had tremendous contributions from the likes of Troy Engle (Ricky Skaggs), members of the glorious Western Swing Authority (including Ed "P*e Wee Charles" Ringwald of the Gordon Lightfoot band), and of course, lots of wonderful Island instrumental talent, too!

We really spared no expense or effort on making this one, and we'd love for you to take a bit of time and help Cindy celebrate this debut album release by giving it a deep, attentive listen whenever you have the chance.

We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we loved making it. Pour yourself a beverage and turn it up!
