This painting is a first! Wanna know why? It's actually going to be a piece of public art in Charlottetown! I was selected by the City to create an original piece that will be displayed on a Traffic cabinet in town.

What's a traffic cabinet you ask? It's a boring grey box near traffic lights that is otherwise unremarkable. No longer! This summer, this image will be displayed on a traffic cabinet near the Sobey's on Allen Street.

I'm super excited to have a piece that will be seen in public and contribute to the charm of Charlottetown.

She's all done! Taking this photo and putting it on canvas was pretty daunting tbh, but I loved the photo so much. Not to mention my gorgeous friend who took the dive! I only asked her to peel her top but she never does anything half way and I got the excellent shot instead. Perhaps she's started a trend and shaped the future of my water collection.

Maybe it isn't obvious, but this painting is very different from my usual style. I painted WAY faster and tried very hard to feel loose and not too precious about the details. As usual though, I'm drawn to the contrast of shadows and bright light. What could be brighter than my little spitfire here?

Staring at this photo for months has pretty much confirmed I need to go to Mexico and take a million photos of my kids until I can snag a shot as good as this! What a beautiful trip for the family and a great memory to be able to paint.

It's a big one, at 30" x 40", which means adjusting strategies because acrylic dries so fast. The blending, the fine detail, the highlights... I think it's all worked to create something the family will keep and enjoy for years and years.
