“Blush over Blue” is a two foot x two foot square featuring evening ocean drama. Those peachy hues almost do me in every time I try them, but in the end, it always (or at least usually 😉) feels worth it. 😊

“Coastal Kiss” at Cape Egmont, PEI

Huge thanks to the amazing Kendall Grigg for his photo of this ocean peek-a-boo. I must say, I think I used every colour in the red / brown / green pallet for these cliff faces. Golden hour on the PEI coastline is truly stunning. Thanks for snapping this photo, Kendall!

Also, I have realized cliffs take a long time to paint!

This painting would be best in a large space, as it’s 4 feet by 1.5 feet. 😊

Work in progress :-)
I don’t usually post in progress pictures, but this one is taking some time so I thought I’d share a preview of what I hope to finish soon. 😊

I’m not sure how you could get any more ‘PEI’ than this 4 foot by 1.5 foot slice of our shoreline. “Tell me you’re on PEI without telling me…” 😂 Photo credit goes to Kendall Grigg who very kindly let me use his awesome photograph as a reference.

I’m calling this one “Sunlift.” It’s a 4 foot x 1 foot slice of blue. 😊 I think my favourite part to paint was actually the seagull— I don’t get to do fine details very often so it was a fun little adventure. 🙂 This one is sold.

“Where the Light Begins” is a large 2 foot x 2 foot acrylic painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

I feel obliged to tell you that there’s a bit of a sunbeam (a real one) going right through the sun that just happened to be there at the moment I rook the shot.

Super fun and I wish I had been able to capture the sunbeam exactly like that with my paints. 😂
Needless to say, it was great timing.

“Lit from Within” is the largest painting I’ve ever done and also the most special to me. It’s almost 3 feet x 4 feet — the largest canvas that will fit in my trunk. 😂

I am sure this painting has lived in my heart for years before it actually came to life on canvas, and when I stood back and looked at it, I couldn’t help feeling just a little misty-eyed.

I sat staring at the waves on the North Shore last week; it was a windy day and the white caps were chasing each other to the shore. As I stared, I thought in paint colours, “some paynter’s grey there, a little ultramarine & burnt umber there, oh! Is that prussian blue? Do I have prussian blue? Can I cheat with winsor blue?”

I’m rambling now. Showing you how much I geek out over waves. But, also, how can you not geek out over our coastlines?!

A huge shoutout to my kids, who were basically cut off from any access to the fridge, stove, or microwave (actually the entire kitchen) while I painted. But who, amazingly, didn’t complain once. Well, maybe once. 😂

This painting is sold 😊

So excited to be starting this extra large ocean painting!!!

I used to think my favourite place was curled up in a spot of sunshine on my living room couch, but I think the deck with the ocean view, a canvas, and the smell of lilacs might be a fierce contender. Yay for finally getting a chance to get outside and start this one (it’s a little too big for my house 😂)

*Now sold — thanks 😊

I’m going to call this 12” x 12” acrylic on canvas “Nature’s Namaste” because I like to imagine the wave being a reflection of not just the moon’s light , but also the light in each one of us. Like nature waving back at us.

That’s where the ‘namaste’ ends, however, because the sky on this one ended up being such a struggle. 😂 I felt I had to drag it out of the canvas instead of just gently teasing it into existence. My dog missed her morning walk, her afternoon walk… and alllllmost her evening walk (she had given up asking), as I put down maybe 12 layers on the sky (I lost count).

This might be my last night scene for a while; my dog needs her exercise, and I need some sunshine-y / easier skies. 🥰

Thanks to Mya Hart for digitizing my work (you do awesome work Mya ☺️) and Melanie Burridge (you also rock) for figuring out alllll the printing details — I now have some prints available at Seawalk Studio in North Rustico.

This has been SUCH a fun journey and it’s been so great to hold these in my hands today.

Thanks again to Cait Clark, Sarah Davison, and Paul Baglole for kindly letting me use their photographs as references.
