The behind-the-scenes is not polished. It’s not glamorous. I think joyful chaos sums it up well. On my “ one day” list, I think about the curated, sleek studio I might have, but I wonder if that might just not be for me. And how that might just be okay.

It’s been a busy time over here lately. Summer vacation, visitors, ongoing renovations and a bunch of admin work, with painting happening in the margins of the day. The schedule is bumpy but I kind of love it. And am finally starting to get used to it. With the kids sleeping a bit better lately I’ve managed to squeeze in 30 minutes by myself in the mornings, which as a morning person who enjoys quiet has been a huge gift. And with the days getting shorter, sunrise and sunset watching are the bookends to my day.

I’m in the planning stages for a few big projects and had some fun looking back to this piece.

Quiet company.

You know you have it good when you can sit comfortably through a lull in conversation and know you’re with the right folks.

I’ve always thought these old grain elevators have that kind of relationship. They don’t compete for attention. They simply stand together, season after season, weathering storms, watching sunsets, keeping each other company.

There’s something comforting about that kind of quiet presence.
