We are saddened to share the news that our past Chair, Hajra Wilson, passed away at Kingston General Hospital on Sunday, August 18, 2019.

Through the Rotary Club, Hajra worked tirelessly in pursuit of her life's goal: the eradication of polio worldwide.

But Hajra also made time to support the arts in her community in all kinds of different ways, including:
- as chair of the Arti Gras annual fundraiser for Idea Exchange's Cambridge Art Galleries
- as a participant in community consultations for public artwork along the Region of Waterloo's LRT corridor
- as a volunteer, sitting pop-up galleries for the A Day & A Night in Hespeler Village, Art meets Music Festival

And Hajra was a founding member of Arts Connect Cambridge and the first Chair of our committee.

Under Hajra's leadership, Arts Connect Cambridge and partners Drayton Entertainment and the City of Cambridge organized four successful fundraising events at the Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge that raised $45,000 for the projects of 15 local artists and arts groups.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

― Margaret Mead

Hajra's life was the proof of this. Thank you for everything, Hajra. May you rest in peace.
