Creating Wahkohtowin – Nipy, Askiy, Kisik, Pisiskiw: We Are All Connected in 2021 became a turning point for me as an artist.

The creation and activation of this piece encouraged me to begin making art again after nearly six years of silence. During that time, self-doubt and the influence of negative voices around me slowly blocked my creativity and my confidence as an artist.

Working on this piece reminded me why I create. It helped me reconnect with my purpose and the narratives that live within the art I create. Through this process, I found my way back to art.

I am deeply grateful that this work helped reopen that door for me. Creating again feels like returning to a part of myself that was always meant to be expressed. Art has helped me through many difficult times in my life. Thank you, Red Deer Public Art, for this opportunity many years ago.

Wahkohtowin – nipy, askiy, kisik, pisiskiw: We are all connected – water, land, sky, animals

Happy Winter Solstice- turning point and moment when sun begins to return

Sharing an image from a piece I conceptualized many years ago, part of my ongoing kapê-pipon-all winter long series.
Working title: kicikânêsîs (Black-capped Chickadee) Awakens Our Spirit with Its Morning Song.

One of my favourite tiny but mighty songbirds: resilient, enduring, beautiful and delicate. There is much more to the story of this piece, and I look forward to sharing that narrative in the future.
